The engine and chassis changes sound interesting, but SHAFT DRIVE?! I though this bike appealed to us because, even if it's a little annoying, we don't mind cheap routine maintanance on our bikes, besides wouldn't that be heavier than chain drive?

I don't see ANY point in owning the F version because it the tail makes it look too much like a CBR1000RR. If I wanted a literbike I already have a ton of lightweight, reliable, options. If they say it's going to be ligther than my 6th gen, I won't believe that untill I see numbers from an unbiased third party.

If we could get the VTR 250 Stateside, that would be great. I just sold my 97 ninja 250 today, and that looks like a sweet mini-monster clone. All of the local dealers are sold out of the 08 ninja 250s, and if they had one they'd be asking over list for them. If honda is about to start meeting the market demands for a change that would be great. The only current model 250s I'd ride would be the Ninja, and that Hyosung sportbike. The others are all too heavy, under braked, or even more underpowered.

Tempting. Don't like the idea of the Vairable Cylinder Management system. Sounds too much like VTEC to me. Why no gear driven cams?

Push button shifting? Could be fun.

Either way, its an at least claimed 150hp in a lighter sport touring machine.

I will never sell the 750, however I am tempted for something new and with a little more go.

    Guys,
In my opinion, the shaft makes it better. Sabres and Magnas (first V4's) had them in the 80's - almost no maintenance or adjustments, no changing chain and sprockets every 15, 000 mi, and quiet. "Cylinder manangement" - instead of VTEC? interesting..

Shaft drive is neat, had it on a cruiser and it was smooth...

also did some digging and mcn has a habit of photoshopping bikes. also simmialr thing going on as they photoshopped a cbr 125 and some gsxr images and said hey look a gsx-r 125...

can't believe a magazine would do this....mind you i also couldn't believe hey would also publish an artical against rider gear...

    Who buys this stuff?

Push button shifts? I wonder how a guy "double-clutches" down through the gears with that kind of drivetrain? Or maybe a guy simply doesn't . . . .

All I know is I'm as curious as all get out. I'll call em paddle shifters is how I take it. and I'm on the fence with the shaft drive being cool. I know from experience it fouled up the rear suspension, but since BMW has been working on it maybe there's something to it by now. Jury still out here, I'll believe it when I see it.

push button shifting - interesting, drag racers have been using air shifters for years. Way faster than anything you could do by yourself.

Cylinder management system sounds more like the Cadillac NorthStar system of shutting down a couple of cylinders while cruising. Improved fuel economy, etc.

If just wern't so damn ugly.

toxic, the pics are just some punter's photoshop speculation. We have no idea what "it" looks like. Or even if there is any "it" at all!

Maybe because Honda knew the VTEC was better... stir...stir...stir...

It is nothing but a photoshop hack job; and not even a good one! The pipe from the under seat exhaust is still visible in front of the back wheel but it has the CBR1000 exhaust down below. I really wish these threads would just stop until we get the REAL WORD from Honda whether or not an 09' VFR will be a reality. The magazines are just shooting in the dark hoping to say "look we said it here first! Buy our magazine, stop getting your motorcycle news from the internet! We need jobs!" :bs:

6 years and running on the same look? It's about time for some one to get lucky and hit the jackpot.
With gas prices the way they are in the USA, It wouldn't surprise me if sales for the VFR increase in the USA over the next few years. So why not make the VFR a lighter bike and still keep it a long haul bike with out producing more weight with a bigger engine. The VFR to me is more of a sport bike than a touring bike which makes it a great for a everyday riding bike around town, commuting and a fun weekend bike.
The VFR is the best of all worlds with the reliability of Honda behind it.
And btw, The VFR reminds me of the 68 Shelby Mustang, the looks still keep up with today's times. Spit shinning is required! Love your VFR and your VFR will love you.

chaps although most may think this all bs, and mcn may not spot on with their design , but something maybe happening , due to the increasing numbers of rumours, and for the first time in the uk the vfr is being discounted , to as low as 7000 uk normally it is around 8499 , yes last year the offered free panniers etc , but honda dont really discount bikes heavily unless they are end of life. the fact that their are discounting the vfr does make you think they are trying to shift their stock as for 1 reason or another. it just could be that there is a new model on the way.

Or it could mean that the VFR is dead and they are not making it anymore. Sounds like a clearance sale to me... get rid of the old stock so the popular bikes can come in. The Honda dealer will sell CBR1000's all day and only sell 1 or 2 VFR's in a month. Which one would you have in your showroom?
