Mornin folks. My names Pat. I'm not new to bikes, but new to VFR's. Just picked up an 86' VF700F a few weeks ago, and in my pursuit of knowledge about this bike, I happened across this forum. Been a big help so far.

Its not pretty, but it runs very well, and will get me through the rest of this season, and hopefully part of the next until I can get my new bike. Ive managed to get around 40 mpg out of it so far, which is about a good 30 mpg better than either of my bronco's. :D So its already payed for itself.

A little about me, Im 27, I own/operate an auto repair shop outside of harrisburg, PA, while still working at a mopar dealer as a tech for just a little longer. I just got married last fall, and live in Hershey. Ohh, and I have too many toys...

Welllll.... Im sure there will be some folks around here with certain feelings about it, but, I've always been in love with the Triumph Speed Triple. I was actually going to get an 08' here about a month ago, but then ended up starting my own business and decided dropping 11k wasn't a good investment to be making right now. But with the ever increasing price of petrol, my two gas hogs, and the fact that the XS will be down for an undetermined amount of time, I wanted to get something just to cruise to work on, and do all the little running about I do. Refusing to buy anything resembling a sport bike with any less than 3 cyls., (hate the sound of a 2 cyl. sport bike) I found this bike, got a good deal on it, and I've been very happy with it since.

I think this winter I might do a little body work to it, whether that be replacing the fairings, or removing the fairings Im not sure yet. Either way, even when the time comes that I do get another bike, I don't think I'll be letting this one go.

Welcome Pat. I'm from Williamsport, PA, and my college roommates were both from Hershey. I think we're just about double your age, though. Have fun and stay safe. Good luck with the business.

    Greetings Pat.

The forums really are helpful, and everyone's pretty friendly.

Your post caught my eye because I'm also from PA and I also just got a VFR. However, I got my VFR after relocating to Denver CO. I miss home!

    Welcome Pat.

I don't live anywhere near you but that's OK. The dealership where I bought my 06 has a mint 86 on their floor. Don't remember what they wanted for it but it was far too much for my blood. They have had it on the floor for about a year now so maybe I should go in to see them. Gotta be carefull though. Like you I have far too many toys already also. Might have to get rid of some of them first.

Well thankyou everyone for the warm welcome. I actually grew up outside of hershey, but moved away to nebraska for a few years, and then to philly, and back out this way about a year ago.

Scooterdog: Have yourself some Bart's Pizza for me.

Things I've learned about this bike so far:

Doesn't like less than 3k out of a turn
    Rear hub bushings are pricey
Top end tap is normal apparently. :)
And aftermarket pipes are seemingly impossible to find.
(trying to replace my yoshi 4-1)
And the rear cowl is just as elusive...

WELCOME!! When your ready, let me know what your doing with your present fairings. Laser is one of the only companies still making 4-1's or anything else for that matter. I joined this group not long ago and there's so much good info I hit it up everday.
