Shopping for a used VFR Ain't Easy

Well, I gave up on that VFR I posted about yesterday (the 16K Service thread) and started calling local shops in my area.
I'm finding that used VFR's for sale are non-existent in Western PA. Some dealers don't even stock new ones and will only order one if it's paid for prior to ordering. What the hell? I talked to a salesman from one of the larger Honda dealerships in the area and he didn't know that they still made the bike! Honestly, it's pretty much HD and look alike cruisers around here. That's all I ever see on the road. Guess it's back to ebay with me............

Have you tried craigslist.org? I got my bike from that site. Also check out cycletrader.com You may also want to check out of state.

 

What year model and color are you looking for?

4th or 5th Generation model. Color isn't really an issue for me. I'd prefer red or yellow as a second choice.
I've been looking on ebay, craigslist and cycletrader. Ebay only has one or two that I'd consider so I started looking locally etc. For ebay and cycletrader I'm using a 500 mile search radius. Something will come along.

 

Took me a while to find mine on craigslist - and it was over 100 miles away. It will certainly be worth the wait. Good luck. I still check all the sites regularly - I'll let you know if I come across any.

 

I did see a couple on here. I have just about enough cash saved to start bidding etc now. I should be good to go here in the next couple of weeks. I'm not borrowing any money for this so it's taking longer than I'd like.

 

I found both my 98 & 99 VFR on Knoxvilles craigslist within 2 days of each other. Traded the 99 last week though.

 

Come on Reg, if you're gonna make a statement like that at least bring the data to back it up. First Shinko's, then you punked R.W. on the brake lines, and now this?......I'm starting to wonder.

 

Cash is king. I worked for 2 years getting out of debt, and don't plan to get back in. Take your time and save up the money. Then, she'll be all yours and yours alone. Monthly payments SUCK!!!

 

As said, keep your eyes open on ebay and craigslist. I waited for a couple months searching on ebay to find my 4th generation out of California. I'm not sure about generations after the 4th, but from what I have seen for prices on ebay and craigslist, 3rd and 4th generation VFR's are some of the most undervalued bikes listed.

 

I don't mind traveling to get a good bike. Something will come along, I'm sure. The only thing that sucks is that by the time I do find one it's going to be too cold to ride. At least that will give me time to hide out in the garage and tinker. :smile:

 

Try Craig's list for Washington DC. I have seen several from 2007 and back. Best of luck.

 

Yep you're going to have to open up your circle. Yep craigs list and ebay, ebay a second.. that and also don't forget to just Google it, is how I found mine, and ended up going 1,800 miles, but in the end way worth it. GL

Just a matter of how motivated you are.
I didn't look at 1/4 of them, but put some notes where I did.
The yellow one in Lexingon KY is nice. If I were you, I'd make that trip with a PU or soon to drive it back while the weather is still with you. Good luck.
