A good site for searching Craigslist is crazedlist.org : search craigslist like a madman

It allows you to search multiple listings at once and limit it to the areas you deem close enough to suit. You have to run Firefox though. It doesn't work with IE. Follow the instructions that pop up when you open it ... it has some Firefox setting you have to change. Once you do that, it's great!!

Vlad, I had no idea there even was a nationwide craigslist. Thank you very much for enlightening me. Damn, guess I'd better get shopping!

Saw this on Craigslist - posted yesterday.

    2000 vfr 800

Essex County is north Jeresy - Newark Airport is in Essex County. IMO looks pretty good - decent price, low miles and yellow. Good luck.

actually, I meant where in the country. they are in the for sale section which most anyone who leaves the chat box for more than 10 minutes knows. and as far as RW and the brake lines, he has since apologized for his jump to conclusions without reading posting dates/times... I mean it was only 1 hour after the galfer guys original post than I called him and RW "thought" he responded first... I think not... You know how cheap I am, if I hear the word FREE I'm there... speaking of ... my wife mentioned tix tonight for a free meal... gues that's where I'll be... Oh, there's gonna be free beer, too. Darn, guess I'll be forced to drink again.

I watched e-bay, Craigslist and the local paper for over a year, and saved money while I did it. Finally found my '04 ABS nearby, for a very reasonable price, w/ less than 3,000 mi. on it. I'd sell mine for $6150, including the Honda shop manual and a helmet, if you want to drive to NC to get it. But keep looking, one will pop up. There was one here in the local paper - a red 04 w/ less than 4,000 mi. for $4500 recently. The guy didn't know what he had...

Sounds like you got a good deal!
I don't quite have the $ I need to start shopping seriously but I'm close. I want to have at least $4K before I get serious. I had a little setback due to some items breaking around my house. I'm pretty confident that something will come along. I've got all winter to look and have decided that I'll drive up to 500 miles in any one direction from my location in Western PA. I looked at shipping but there are drawbacks so I decided against it (cost, and I wouldn't get to look at the bike before purchasing). I get into those "I need it now" moods but have resisted thus far. I could easily borrow the money on a short-term basis if a great deal comes along, though.

If you know what you want, now through winter is the time to buy. People aren't riding as much, a lot of folks are short of money right now. The price of gas drove some people back to their bikes, but the weather and lower prices will have them parking them again. A VFR isn't a necessity (I'll probably catch it for saying that!), but if you're sure you want one, the next few months would be a great time to find one at a good price.
Good luck, and let us know how it goes!

I bought one on Tuesday! Drove 350 miles one-way to get it. It's a 1998 with 12,500 miles on it. New Metzler tires, chain & sprockets, battery and it's in excellent shape. The tail section has a very small crack in it but I'm going to reinforce the damaged area on the underside of the piece so it doesn't crack any further. Other than that, the bike is spotless.
I can't believe how much power it has.

Congratulations! You'll probably be amazed at the smoothness and handling, too.
Hope you get some nice days to ride.
