If your hand is falling asleep do two things.

    1) pull over and give yourself the stranger
    2) loosen your grip occassionally. you may have a death grip on the throttle.

Check out a cramp buster. $10 piece of plastic that wraps around the throttle and you use the weight of your wrist to control it. no need to squeeze the life out of the throttle any more!

I read around about posture and found that keeping my arms locked straight is bad. It is said to keep elbows bent toward the ground and keep a loose grip with the fingers hanging over the front of the grip. Also squeezing the tank lightly with your knees, heels on the pegs, and holding yourself up with your torso is supposed to help. I tried it yesterday on the way home and no problems! I did notice that I am a little sore so I am obviously out of shape. My muscles should get used to it and hopefully no more numb hand!

That Cramp buster looks it would work like the Throttlemeister, but cheaper. $10 is a cheap investment too. Good spot.

I think Looty has the answer, throttle grip pressure is the key. As you ride try to ease the pressure of your grip and I even take three of my fingers and place them on the brake leaver when I'm touring. Touring windshields are nice to keep the wind off your helmet but I have found that the wind pressure on my chest that you get with a stock shield helps keep my upper body weight off of my wrist. Enjoy...

I'm not 100% familiar with the meisters, but i think they work as a throttle locking mechanism. The cramp buster rolls with the throttle as you weight it.

I feel funny riding without one.

Sounds like you got the right idea about body positioning. Sport riding is all about supporting your weight with your legs and torso. Straight arms lead to many many bad things; poor steering, tankslappers, weave, etc.

keep it light on the bars and your riding will improve ten fold...or ben folds...depending on yuor preferences.

I also have experienced the same problem and pretty much limited solely to the right hand. Consensus of opinion around here is that it's due to the aftermarket bar end weights i've fitted. the OEM ones are much heavier than aftermarket and this helps to dampen out the high frequency tingle that causes the VWF (vibration white finger) effect.

I'm off to david silvers web site to buy some original bar ends to see if this works!

Nice looking bike, identical to my 2000, try stretching out before you ride to help get the blood moving. First instinct is to jump on and go, especially first thing in the morning. I've experienced a pinching sensation in my neck muscles, stretching seems to help. Enjoy the rip.

Here's one updated picture. I have ideas in mind for this winter for modding it a little more. Hopefully a ceramic coated exhaust, strip part of the wheel(s), maybe an upper frame polish, it depends on how ambitious I get and how much my fiance caps my funds to do it. I just got moved in to my new house this weekend so now I have the whole 3rd car part of the garage to play around with and work on it. No more apartment parking lots! So with the new house comes more financial responsibility plus an upcoming wedding in the spring  . So if I don't get anything accomplished, that's why. I'll update if I get to do something.

I just finished my VFR800 last week. You will not be disappinted! I loved it the first time I saw mine (with every plastic part on it cracked or broken), so I know you can't wait. They are a diff breed and very nice to ride. Mine after I got done looks like yours (accept no decals). Good luck and see ya on the road!

i just love the unmistakable shape of the bike, apart from the comfort, performance, character, handling, reliablity, presence( some call weight ) and grin factor i also like the colour.

hope you and your baby will have many happy miles together. I am about to fit cruise control to mine, perhaps something like that will help with the numbness on long journeys? i always find that taking my hand off the throttle for a few seconds clears my pins and needles.

That sounds like an excellent idea! I like the way you think. :tea:

The first things that I really want to do are comfort upgrades. I want some large diameter gel grips and I want to either take the existing seat somewhere and get them to put in some gel/foam and reshape so it doesn't feel like it's pushing me into the tank or just get a Sargent seat. I'm not too worried about the grips but the seat is expensive. I have seen threads where people put in new foam themselves but I'm not so sure I trust myself to do that. Anyone got a link for those large diameter gel grips?
