I bought a used '98 VFR 800 2 mos. ago, took it on a shake down ride last week-end. The bike rides and handles like a dream. Love that V4 torque! (It will hard to ever go back to an in line 4)

I think the bike would look better with a dark tinted w/shield and wonder which one is best.

I'm about 5 11" and I'm afraid if I get a taller screen than stock it may create some buffeting

    Any suggestions would be appreciated

    Thanks.

I really liked the quality and fit of the GIVI on my '97. I also got a Double Bubble from Zero Grav and did not like the fit and the quality. Unfortunately, the GIVI did buffet my helmet more, but I did get more protection and could hide behind it in the rain. My '02 has just about the right combination of protection and noise. GIVI is always a good bet for fit and quality.

I also have a '98 and fitted a red Zero Gravity Double Bubble. The red is dark enough to look good without being gaudy and is a nice counterpoint to the rear light. Not as much wind protection as the Givi but anything under 80 you'll never knoiw the difference. I'
m 6'4 and nothing is made that I can tuck behind; a little wind in the chest helps get the weight off your wrists.

Spenceri, I have a 2000 VFR and I bought a Zero Gravity Double Bubble (dark smoke). I'm 6'0" and the screen works great, very little buffeting compared to the stock screen (under 80mph). I would probably get just the "smoke" instead of the "dark smoke", but both look good. The fit and finish on the screen exceeded my expectations.

I have a smoke zero gravity double bubble on my '98, and I am very pleased with it. I'm 6'1" & haven't noticed any buffeting, and it looks way better than the stock screen.

Also have a smoked ZG-DB on my '98. I'm 5' 11" and at all speeds, works great. Fits on with no problems.

    Howdy,

Well... I am 5'10" and I could not stand the ZG double bubble. It put the wind blast right smack in the middle of my visor and caused severe buffeting. I use HeliBars, so maybe that makes it worse. I kept it for about 500 miles or so before selling it on the VFR mailing list. The stock screen puts the wind right at my breastbone. This leaves my helmet in clean quiet airflow with no buffeting. It also nicely inflates my jacket in the summer. The downside is it does that in the winter too ;-) Fortunately, we have a short winter here in Tx. I have tons of pics of the ZG on my 98 on my website in the PRESENT section.

If you know someone in Japan or that travels to Japan, you can pick up a tinted OEM screen for about $150 or so I think. FOr some odd reason, it is hard to order one from an out of country source and have them ship it here. Perhaps there is some retarded regulation preventing it. After all, cagers are not allowed to tint their front windows in Tx. Is that true elsewhere? The stock OEM looks real good tinted.

    Adios,

    Scott,
Thanks for the feedback, really enjoyed your website. I may be sending a message to you direct asking you some questions on the Givi Bags, as I am just starting to look around.

Spencer - I have an '02 with the ZG Stock Replacement Screen (dark smoke) While I like the looks the screen does not fit as well as stock and there is a slight gap betweent the screen and the headlight fairing in the front......not the end of the world - but I would expect a better fit from ZG - have had their products before and liked them.

There's a European "double bubble" style windscreen made by Pyramid Plastics.
The main difference between the the Pyramid and ZG is the Pyramid is much thicker and less prone to breakage.
One reseller here in the states is Carbo Tex Composites.

I'm new here.....but I ride an '02 with a Carbotex Dark Smoke Doublebubble. Rode a 470 mile loop around Death Valley on the 8th. Best wind protection I have found. I used to ride a '98 with a Givi Tall, it did buffet worse that the Carbotex.

P.S. Don't ever let anyone tell you Death Valley is always HOT....it was 21 degrees when I crossed Panamint Summit ;)

I've been trying to reach Carbotex by phone for the last couple weeks and they have not been answering. Anyone know their status?

I put a GIVI dark windscreen on my 2000 VFR with HeliBars.  I'm 5'9".  I took it off,  gave it away and put the stock screen back. I though the bike looked better with the dark windscreen, however, it put the wind at the top of my head.   It was very very annoying. The stock screen put the wind on my upper chest.  Also, I didn't like looking through the dark screen.   I actual prefer being able to have good visability through the windscreen.

    Hey Rick,
The hyperlink for the catalog on CarboTex's website said
they were out on 1/29/2003 and to check back.
There were no further updates posted.

    Thanks everyone for the feedback.

I tried to search Carbontex catalog and received the same message saying they are closed end of January, wonder if that means they are out of business or what. I would be relunctant to place any type of order until I'm sure they are going to be around to ship it.

    :-/

I've just read on another list that Carbontex has closed. Check with Dynamohumm for the windscreen.

Thanks to "starcruiser" for the Dynamohumm connection...I don't see Pyramid Windscreens there, so if anyone knows another non-overseas source for those please post it, but I just sent an email to Dynamo regarding the NWS carbon fiber hugger for the 02 vfr, which is not exactly this topic, but hey, thanks nonetheless... ;)

I have a '99 with a slightly tinted Givi windscreen. It looks good, but it does buffet my helmet more than the stock, I'm thinking about putting the stock back on. By the way, the Givi bags are the very best investment on the bike so far.
