Ooo, actully it's not all that bad, but yea it's not fun either. Two years ago I went through this the whole operation thing, mine was almost an out patient thing, was weird you go in to the doctor office, they sorta put you out, I mean you hear em talking about this and that, sorta a foggy time then the next thing you know they're done. took like 40 minutes, I had the patch installed, go home you can sorta walk, LOL take pain killers for a day, then start walking it off, overall time line is around 6 weeks before you are fully up and running, but you'll also know how far to push it too. So not really a big deal yet something not to take lightly either. Best of with how it goes.

The key is to take it easy afterwards like the doc tells ya. If you follow the destructions, you should heal up just fine in a relatively short period.

Ok, so i had the regular kind that pops out the abdominal muscle wall. it didnt hurt or anything, just had this wierd lump there.
so i had the Laproscopic proceedure, supposed t0 be a day thing, in and out as RV says, turned into a week cause i developed a secondary infection in the wound sight. They had to reopen and drain it and RESTAPLE it (damn). i went home and did outpaitent with the local district nurse for about 10 days while they oversaw the wound closure.
i was just thankful to be out of the hospital! so i guess everyones differant
it depend on a few variables as to what sort of outcome you get.

oh and BTW, you dont know how much you use your ab muscles till you cant use em. mine went as tight as hell after the op, felt like id done 10,000 sit ups.

I assume everyones situation will be different. I had a repair on my right side when I was 24. It didn't keep me down long, but I was 24!
Anyway, you will have to take it pretty easy for a few weeks. You'll get around fine, but will have to keep away from lifting. I'm glad I had it before having a toddler to tote around.
I remember taking a long weekend off work after the surgery on a Friday and walking bent over for a few days. My job was flexible enough at the time that I could get a lot of desk work done and stay busy.
Now that I think of it, one of the worst things was getting shaved by some big male nurse dude. I thought I'd show up at the hospital and have some cutie raising that gown and shaving me. I guess it worked out for the best, as nothing got in the way of the work; it may have if things went according to my plan.

Drewl couldn't be more correct. I have had a few surgeries for other issues. I always discounted what the doctor said and went back to work early. And I now pay the price. This time around, my doctor is calling the shots. My bike has been parked sinc e Sept 5, but I am cleared to get back into the saddle January 1. Come hell or high water (or in our case lately high snow) this will happen. Even though you may feel better, your doctor is the one who has the expertise to evaluate your condition. Listen to his advise. That is what you pay him for. Get better and then enjoy the ride.

I had one on the left side in 1986 when I was 18. Out-patient repair/procedure with no complications. Bent over for the first couple of days and a bit tender for a week or two (watch out for that first sneeze!!!). Other then that, no worries. I'm sure you'll do just fine. I'm 41 now and only have a faded scar and memory of the event...

I'm not. Not only does he have vast motorcycle related knowledge that he freely shares, but now we can also go to hiim for free medical advice. Hmmmm... Dr. Drewl. Has a nice ring to it, no?

I have had a hernia for the past 6-9 months, but have delayed the surgery out of -- childishness -- perhaps. I have just been very careful and it has seldom "popped out". Am thinking about having it shortly though just to avoid any complications. Heard so many bad stories...
