HI, New to this forum. I picked up a 87 VFR700F2 last month. The fairing & rear tail section have broken mounting tabs. My first thought is to repair with fibreglass. However, I've been told that fibreglass won't bond well to ABS plastics. I don't want to go plastic welding, since the paint is in good shape. Should I be looking for ABS-friendly products ? or stick with fibreglass ?
welcome to the forum,,, !st are you making new tabs or repairing the old ones? I have an 86 that I repaired the fairing on with fiber glass and it bonded right to it. IMO you just need to get the esurface your bonding to scuffed up enough so the fiberglass can grip it. sure fiberglass grips a painted surface but it will eventuall come off. good luck. CR
it worked for me here's a thread I did on some repairs on the rear seat cover on my 86. Hopes it helps. It's still going strong! http://vfrworld.com/forums/first-second-generation-1983-1989/18696-plastic-repair-made-easy.html
