Hi guys. I'm going to buy my first VFR this weekend and could use some input. I have found 2 bikes. First is an 03 with lots of mod. Corbin gunfighter, soft saddle bags, 2BRO stash exhaust. It has 20k miles with new mich pilot tires, and brake pads. Its silver and black with yellow wheel stripes. It fell over once and has a few scratches. The 16k mile valve adj has not been done but the elect recalled was done by dealer. He is asking 5k for it

Second bike is a pearl white 06. As far as the girl who is selling it knows its all stock. Her husband left her and she just wants out from under the payment. It was garged kept for a while until she move and did not have anything to keep it in. The pics look nice but the fact that it has 15k miles on it and she knows nothing about it scares me a little. She wants 6500 for it.

Thank you for your help in advance!!!

you need to look at them both and check them out.. h8 that owner did not do tune-up when called for.. you will know if stock or not look at the new ones on a dealer floor and go see the others...good luck be patient and don't get an impulse buy there are plenty of good bikes out there just take the time to find them..

Based on what you've said I'd go with the '03. It's got the mods and the owner knows about the bike. It sucks that the 16k valve inspection hasn't been done but if you search the forum for threads about the inspection you'll find out that there isn't a single person who had to have their valves adjusted at 16k. And while your searching look up the mileage threads and you'll see that 20k isn't a lot of miles on a viffer. good luck!:cheersaf:

Im suprised by the others, honestly for $1500 you could have a 3year younger bke, I dont see the mods beng worth the extra $$..the corbn you can have for around $450.00, and the exhaust for around $600.00 and if you take your tme and look for ebay deals, or deals on vfrw, and vfrd you could get them cheaper..but both are nice..I would look at BOTH and choose the one in best condition..on a side note the 06' has a different v-tec engagment that might be more favorable, but Ive rode both and neither bother me..they are great bikes any year!!!!! Goodluck and post some pics!!!!

I'd go with the 06, and see what this chick looks like too.

I would look at the condition of the oil before considering either bike. I mean it won't tell you the bikes whole life story, but it would give you clue as to the general upkeep, (especially because the valve insp. was neglected on one of the bikes). From what I have heard I the 06 is sounding much better. Female driven gives me a mental image of nice and slow babied bike. But I mean it coulda been her husbands and there are some girls out there tearing ass too so...

But, the modded out veefer: dropped, stripes, modded, lake of maintainnce... Etc. Just seems like a squid. I'm not feelin it... And I'm not too keen on buying modded bikes. Could be ragged out.

    Your choice just my $.02

I would go for the 06. Do your own mods. Mileage on either bike is not a concern. I have 63K km on my 06. Haven't torn around on it but it does get up there and goes on my early morning commutes on the freeway. The beast has shown me no problems at all. BTW..all stock here. The most important part is that they are both VFR's

Thats a good point. On any bike/car I am considing buying, I pull out the dipstick and see what the oil looks like. If it looks nasty gunky, I take further pause.

Really both bikes have merits, you have to look at both. If you get the stocker would you want to add pipes and seat etc.?

---Offer $5500 for the '06 and see what see says.......cash in fist is a great motivator.

Either one would be an excellent pick, but it is worth noting that Honda did update the ECU mapping in 2006. Otherwise, there are no other significant changes I'm aware of. Optionally, you could always buy a Power Commander and tweak the ECU mappings yourself.

I myself picked up a black 06 last summer for just over $6K. It had been lightly dropped once and had minor scratches, but also had custom Remus exhause and only had 2,700 miles. If you haven't already, be sure to check out Buy or Sell New and Used Motorcycles - CycleTrader.com. This is where I found my bike. Personally I'm not a huge fan of white, but thats just me. It's actually a pretty practical color considering visibility and all.
