I'm in the process of installing a new chain and sprocket and have run into a problem with the rear sprocket. It seems like the inner diameter of the sprocket is fractions of and inch too small to fit cleanly over the hub (correct term?). Is this right? The old sprocket slides on nice and freely. Am I supposed to torque the bolts down to force the sprocket on or is it the wrong sprocket? Its an RK chain and sprocket kit (from Sprocket Center - closed today) if that makes a difference.

    Thanks in advance.

Which RK chain/sprocket kit did you purchase?

I used the exact same kit (obviously, mine was for a 2000 VFR) 2 weeks ago & my rear sprocket popped right on with no forcing. As with any mass produced, machined product, it is quite possible the one you have is defective. Sprocket Center may give you a new one but I doubt it. They will probably tell you to call RK directly.

BTW, what helmet is that in your avatar? It looks pretty cool.

KC - Were your sprockets RK branded? The ones that came with my kit are not - don't have the name off hand and I gotta run to dinner with the family. Will post later.

My helmet is a KBC Force RR. I was choosing between that and another one. The Chinese character just happens to be one of the characters in my son's Chinese name. Its an excellent helmet with tons of air flow. So much so I had to close the vents while riding the past few mornings.

My sprockets had no stamping on them. The rear had a white painted 530 & nothing else. It was in a big plastic blister pack with the chain in a cardboard RK box & the sprockets were recessed into molds in the blister pack.

Sounds like the sprockets are different. The ones in this kit are DriveSystemsUSA branded. The sprockets were just shrink wrapped to a piece of cardboard, not recessed, no molds. Chain was packaged the same way.

Well, I guess the bike's out of commission for the next few days. And it's supposed to be a nice day tomorrow... Eff.

I recently got a new rear sprocket for my Hawk from Vortex, and the 6 bolt holes were drilled too small.....quality control is sporadic.

I just installed new sprocket and DID chain kit from sprocket center on gen 6. sprocket was the same brand as u mentioned. it did not fit over hub as easily as original. but did fit with very little hand persuasion. is it possible you just need to clean up sprocket with file so it will slide on?if thats the case i think i would touch it up with paint so it doesn't rust

Thanks all for the replies. I'm going to reach out to Sprocket Center tomorrow to seek advice/opinions but I'm thinking I'll have to go the file and hammer route. I'll post an update tomorrow.

Wow. This thread does nothing but affirm my satisfaction without Sprocket Specialists and leaves a bad taste in my mouth for the Sprocket Center and RK Kits.

Sprocket Specialists and Enuma(EK) Chain FTW!

I ordered the next kit up from yours (probably the same sprockets with a DID chain) from the same place. Mine rear fit with no problem at all. Did you order the stock sizes?

    Update/Resolution

I contacted Sprocket Center this afternoon and explained what was going on. This was the first time they heard of this problem but offered to ship a new rear sprocket out but did recommended trying a rubber mallet to persuade the sprocket. So before asking for the replacement, I came home used a little grease as lube and tapped, well somewhere between a tap and whack, the sprocket home. All told, I probably had to hit it 7 or 8 times to get it seated properly.

The end result is that my bike is all back together with a shiny new chain and sprockets. I still would have preferred a sprocket that slid on freely but am comfortable with the install. Customer service from Sprocket Center was excellent and wouldn't hesitate using them again. I should also mention that they allowed me to take part in the group buy from the other forum even though I was a couple of weeks past the ordering cut off.

Thanks all for your replies and to those who have posted excellent walk-throughs for the chain and sprocket replacement.
