I am having trouble locating a rear brake rotor for my vfr700. Does anyone have a source that I could try? I work for a honda dealership, no luck for OEM parts, but I am hoping that someone out there knows of a shop that I could get one made. If anyone has a good used one, I would be interested.

You don't really need a rear brake anyway....hah.
I bet if you scour the internet, you can find it somewhere, or yeah, just hold out for something on ebay. You might try emailing some of the ebay sellers that seem to have all sorts of honda parts....maybe they can "locate" one for you?
Oh, have you considered trying a rotor from another model? Surely they used the same rear rotor on several bikes from that year or on other model years.

Thanks for the heads up on the rotors. all your replies are very appreciated. I also had the pulse generator issue. None in the USA that are new. Located a used one, but still open to get a new one. Thanks again guys for your help. Weather is perfect here in southern WI right now for riding and the VFR needs to run--all throughbreds need to stretch their legs!!

The VF500F rear rotor is the same part, just without the holes. Also you can use any VF500F front rotor, which is actually slightly lighter due to it's design (but also without the holes).

Didn't want to start a new thread on this. Does anyone know the stock thickness of the rear rotor and the safe minimum thickness? I have one on the bike with some strange smooth grooves. Not effective at all. I also bought a used rotor with a thickness just under the one on the bike, but the used one is smooth. I forgot the measurements I took (.0170mm??, .170??) Thanks in advance.

The 83 - 85 VF750/700 had the thickest rotors on the back (min 6mm). All the other rotors (including the 1000F) on VFs, front or rear, were min 4mm. 86 VFR front were min 3.5mm.

That's who I bought the used rear from :smug:. From what I'm reading, it's time for a swap and some new pads. Thanks for the replies everyone.

I believe the same rotor was used on a large number of Honda bikes of that era, several different models.

So, another question about brakes. I keep seeing Kevlar pads, but they all say "For Track Use Only". Stock will work fine for me, but what is the makeup? It's hard to do a search (on cars semi-metalic works fine) if I don't know what to look for.

    Thanks again

Look for EBC HH pads for your bike.
