Ok found that the sid cover is rubbing up against the gear not letting it spin. When cover is off or losely put back on it cranks, but when I tighten the bolts it wont. I dont see anything off about the cover or gears. So weird

The clutch cover gasket is VERY picky about tolerances. It must have the correct clearance after the cover bolts are torqued - so OEM is what I recommend.

Too tight will bind the starter gear (what you are experiencing), while too loose will cause the starter gear to rattle as you go down the road.

Sounds like you are using a gasket that compresses too much when the bolts are torqued.

Did you get an OEM or aftermarket clutch cover gasket?

    pick up coils

The pick up coil in front will contact the clutch cover if you mix the years. You can remove the dowels and pivot cover on starter gear pin and it will leave a mark where it is rubbing.Lightly file the suface of coil wher it contacts(just plastic)and reinstall. It would not appear such a little thing can cause that problem but it does.

Yeah it was aftermarket and today I put on an OEM one. Same thing wont turn. I loosened up the bolts just a tad and the engine would crank just a tad. So loosened up some more and it cranks but thats way too loose to have the bolts.

Just a thought. If you have two gaskets, maybe you can stack both of them and see if this gives the torque and the clearence you need.
