Well my name came from an old friend that called me that when I was in high school. Some thing different then "Emil". So once I started using these Computer things, that became my normal handle.

In summer of 2008, at age 53, I caught the motorcycle bug. I found a Kawasaki KZ650 and every chance I got, I'd head south of Spokane WA into the backroads of the farming area known as the Palouse (pronounced "puh-loose.") Since my coworkers thought I'd gone bonkers, I told them I was not only a "loose cannon", but a "Palouse Cannon."

Now here's an odd but true story of why I have a viffer. I figured I'd get a modern bike in addition to the ol' KZ650, and was pretty well set on a Kawasaki Versys. Then in April 2009 I dreamt I was flying. I was scanning the ground for a motorcycle to buy. It was a mellow sunny day and below was a landscape of pine forests, rolling fields, and farmhouses. Suddenly, the entire view to the ground became obscured by a frosted pane of glass. Then, a huge hand scratched the letters "VFR" in the frosted glass and I awoke. I'd heard of the VFR, but knew little about it. I learned they are terriffic bikes, and was near to buying a new one when a 2000 VFR came up for sale north of Spokane. I got semi-lost driving up north, but was unconcerned since it was a rare gorgeous day after a punishing winter and miserable spring. While driving through the countryside, I recalled the dream. Before long, I had the pleasure of meeting the bike's owner, his wife, and their kids and dogs and cats. The beautiful yellow motorcycle soon was mine. We agreed the dream had been a premonition! The cougar avatar befits the bike, due to the appearance of the animal, its quick and agile nature, and because the bike is often ridden through the Palouse, home of the Cougars of Washington State University.

Mine's not at all creative; I just put some reference to what ever bike group I join in front of my real name. (I know-Yawn.)

Well, Eric is my name, and GDR stands for "Great Divide Ride". Which is the trail that runs from Canada to Mexico (Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Cololrado, New Mexico) along the Rocky Mountains/Continental Divide. A family friend, my father, and I completed this ride in the summer of '08. I rode a DRZ400s and our total mileage was about 2700 miles, a little more than half of it off road.
