After stopping at the bank this afternoon I hit the starter and pffftt... Bump started it and got to my car mechanic's shop. He put a meter on and we could see it wasn't charging. As I'm staring at the R/R I see a curl of smoke coming out...

I took the battery out and got a ride home. I'm going to charge it overnight with my Battery Tender and take it back tomorrow and see if it will get me home.

Planning to get the R/R and maybe the VFRness from WireMyBike. And maybe one of those little LEDs that tells you when your charging system is crapping out...

So I think I just became a member of the club. I was on the freeway about 1 mile from my exit, and it died. I tried the starter, nothing. I let out the clutch and it bump started, I got to my exit and it died again, so I pulled to the side and called my wife.
Side note, when calling your wife to ask her to bring the van, the ramp, and tie-downs, explain that it's a mechanical issue. She will appreciate it.

Mines in a similar state, the R/R has bitten the dust, I have a very new battery so hoping it aint fried.

I found an article about the R/R on the web, the link is below. Seems the R/R isn't really the problem, more the negative connection and Cross-Sectional Area of the negative wire coming from the R/R. The negative battery lead also plays a significant part in the problem.

Common Technical Issues for HONDA VFR750F, 90-93 [MOTORCYCLE] - ElectroSport Industries

My VFR is sitting in the garage feeling sorry for itself at the moment, going to sort out the negative lead tomorrow afternoon, R/R will have to wait a few weeks due to cashflow so she won't be moving for a while yet.

I put a R/R from a Suzuki 750 GSXR and a computer fan to cool it on mine (a '97) -total outlay about $40. Has worked flawlessly for a year/5000 miles. Read all the posts on it-it's as much a wiring fix as a R/R replacement issue.
