Just got all 4 wisdom teeth pulled out yesterday. Was put out for it . No pain whatsoever. They gave me Hydrocodone and recommended I go out and pick up some Ibuprofen. I had it done around 1pm yesterday.... They said take it easy for the next couple days... well I had yesterday and today off so I'm off of work until tommorow... That means today is open for me! Heres my question for you.

I havent taken any Hydrocodone since 1pm yesterday because it makes me very very drowsy.. I've just been taking the IBuprofen and was wondering if taking the VFR out would be considered "taking it easy"... I have that itch! The doctor told me to not do anything too physical because I could jar loose my clots where the teeth were and get dry socket...

Would you take your bike out for a nice long ride?

Should I worry about my helmet and the pressue it puts on my jaw?

    Should I just stay home?!?!

I had a wisdom tooth pulled last year. I rode my bike to the dentist, I rode home afterwards. No drugs other than a local anesthetic though. My helmet did put a little pressure on the spot but it wasn't unbearable. As long as you aren't taking the hydrocodone I'd say go for a ride. If you do take some I'd say stay home. That stuff puts me out and there's no way I'd get on a bike after taking it.

I guess I have taken them long since they don't make me drowsy but wake me up for some reason. If you are just taking the Ibuprofen than the medicine will not be a problem. But if you hit a hard bump you could mess up the clot's. I have all four of mine cut out a long time ago and I know it wasn't fun. Had three stitches in each corner of my mouth.

yodasmile I got all 4 pulled back on 2001, I actually had the bottom ones pushing into the jaw bone so they had to open up and grind some of the bone and cut the teeth in 4 parts just to get them out. The upper ones came off in one piece. That's one of the most painful events in my life. The #1 was getting fixed. One advice, that really help me in healing up quicker, mix 1 tablespoon of salt with a glass of water and use it as a mouthwash after eating. They prescribed the hydrocodone but I didnt drive the whole time I took them. Really potent stuff.

I have Vertigo. Any time I'm going to ride, I'll ask myself if I'm mentally and physically prepared to ride. But if I have question myself, then the answer is no.

So this is really a scenario that only you have the answer too.

Every time I've had teeth pulled or other oral surgey, they gave me a prescription for some powerful addictive pain killer. When I left, I always tore up the prescription and threw it away. I just don't want anything to do with that stuff (there's a good reason).

Anyway, I've gone for long rides after oral surgery, and never had a problem, and I have a very tight helmet. Go ahead and go. Just don't do any bone jarring off-road stuff.

I'd rest today. Maybe tomorrow for a ride. The drugs don't concern me, but it's the clotting like your doctor reminded you of that is the biggest problem.

I had mine out on a Friday morning and I was back to playing Trombone in Wind Ensemble on Monday.

I would go as long as I was feeling ok.

Good choice on getting put under, I did the same thing when I got mine out. Mine sure didn't want to heal though, I had to go in every other day for weeks getting the holes stuffed full of that clove tasting stuff. What a hassle!
