    Hi all,

I'm in the process of building up a '99 VF800 from parts. The previous owner had serious problems with the harness and CDI so he had disassembled the whole bike to sell on eBay when I found him. Bought all the pieces and have been re-assembling the bike in my garage for the last few weeks. Got a harness and CDI off eBay.

So I've put everything back together but I have three wiring questions I'm hoping somebody can help with. I've attached pics to try and help.

#1. What are the blue and black plugs that come from a lead that comes off the main harness close to the fuse box (Pic #1)
#2 What id the little round grey & white plug on the right side (not sure where it starts) see pic #2
#3 What is the fused extra red line that comes directly off the positive terminal of the battery? The manual seems to indicate that it should plug into the spade clip directly below it in pic #3.

    Any input would be great.

    Thanks in advance guys!

The two conections in the first pic go to the fuel pump and tank level sender. (I think)
The red/white wire in pic 3 does go to that conector.
I'm afraid I cannot help with pic 2. What colours are the wires?

Hey I happen to have pictures saved from the last time I did major work on my bike (very handy if you forget where that part goes!)

For the #2 pic that gray/white wire plugs into the airbox as illustrated below:

The #1 pic blue and brown connectors are for the fuel tank they connect at the bottom portion facing the rider as illustrated below:

However, I'm not real sure about the #3 picture. In stock form there's only ONE, I repeat, ONE wire that connects to the positive terminal. I think the previous owner wanted to add an accessory power outlet. If I were you I'd disconnect that and leave only the stock connectors.

    OK, that partially helps

OK, thanks on #1 (I'm an idiot, should have thought of that!)

#2 is not the one that goes into the airbox, see attached pics. (The 2 cables are black with white stripe and yellow with black stripe)

#3 Any idea what that powers ? The bike turns over and the instruments come on with that lead off.

Ah, ok I think I see what part you're talking about now. It's the one that goes BELOW the airbox. See pic below:

Beats me. I took the liberty in taking a quick pic hope this helps:

Looks like it's connected to a point in the wiring harness.

It may be an accessory hook up like for a heated vest or something similar.

The #2 is not the one for under the air box, that one is already connected.:tsk:

I think I agree on the red line, but it's strange that it appears to connect into the harness. That would be an afterthought mod which is not very Honda-ish!:eyebrows:

According to the manual, its under the air filter housing. It says that you have to lift the housing assy from the engine and its under the rh side. (Lh side is the temp sensor)

OK, so I worked out that the small round plug actually connects into the side of the "Air intake solenoid valve" which is actually screwed onto to the underside of the airbox on the front/right/lower corner.

So as best as I can tell, the red wire is from "Main fuse B" and when I initially connected it there it blew a fuse, but now it's OK.

Will somebody confirm for me that there is a red cable that comes from the battery's positive terminal through a (40A?) fuse to a little white male spade connector that protrudes from the harness near where the main frame and sub-frame meet ?

The bike turns over BTW, but no sign of ignition, and the fuel pump doesn't pressurize on it's own, I'm manually running it with a hot wire. I'm trying the various suggestions in the service manual to try and diagnose the problem.

Howdy Dehning, I am not writing as someone who can help, because in this situation, I really cant be of much help.
But,I commend you on what you are doing, it's not that easy to re assemble a bike especially when you weren't the one who disassembled it. Anyway, I have been thinking of doing exactly what you are in the process of doing. Just wondered,is this something
that you find satisfying or is this project on your last nerve? Is this the first machine that you built from scratch? ed

They go to the fuel pump and fuel sending unit on the underside of the tank. :)

Eddie Cap: This is not my first project bike, I have had a Ninja 250, a Honda VF500, a Honda Hurricane and a Honda VFR750 before this. I have 3 running right now that are my daily commuters. Bike projects are absolute sanity savers for me, they are every bit as therapeutic to me as functional, the only frustration I have is that I have quite a tight budget, so I have to resort to scouring eBay, watching for deals or waiting for funds sometimes, but it's all worth it when you can look at the bike and say "I did that". The only thing I've learned is that engine work is not fun, so I'd rather get a running bike with all kinds of peripheral damage than a good looking bike with engine problems. (I eventually gave up on the VF500 because of this)

Pic#1 is of my running bikes, pic #2 is what my current project should look like when it's re-assembled.

Steven113: Thanks bro (that was actually answered in one of the first responses.
