I am planning on purchasing a 2007 red no abs vfr that i left a small deposit on. The purchase price is 8100 + tax and tags, no other fees. I just saw the same bike selling on ebay for about a thousand dollars less. Am I about to get ripped off? Are the ebay prices legit? Thank for any input from anyone that knows.

Since there's not really any changes made to the vfr from 2002-2009 other than v-tech engagement, and clear turn signals, I would try to find a used vfr with low miles. There posted all over vfrd, vfrworld, and ebay. I seen a 05 vfr, silver with oem luggage corbin seat with backrest, and helibar, with 10k miles on vfrd. Asking something like $5800. The 06's and up will have the upgraded wiring, for the electrical system. Ive owned both, a 04 and currently have a 06 and there isnt much difference. I no that you will have a warranty wit the new, and you will be the only person to have ridden the new bike. And there is nothing better than getting something brand new, but you just have to out weight the pros and cons. By the way, the 04 was bought new and the 06 was used with 3k miles on it. I paid a little much for it, purchased in 01-2009 ($6800) but it was in mint condition with out any flaws on the bike. All in all I think you can get a better deal.

Maybe I'll try to put some pressure on the sales guy when I'm suppose to pick up the bike. Perhaps I can still get a better deal?

I only gave the dealer 250$. That is all he needed to get the bike delivered. The dealer called me today to let me know the bike is in. I bet the guy will freak if I drag my feet. Especially with the prices rapidly dropping.

Number one rule in buying anything is "stop shopping when you make a deal'. I think seeing and riding a bike before you buy is worth something, that's why they are cheaper on ebay.
Don't worry about a few hundred $, just enjoy the new ride.

This is great advice however we are talking about $1100 not a few hundred. The ones on ebay are the out the door price for just over $6900.

Plus the ones on ebay you may have to travel to get to them. What's the cost of that there and back plus your time. So it will not really be $1100.

One in the hand beats two in the ebay.

I’m not sure about NY but most states will charge you tax and title fees when you get the tag so $6900 may not be the “out the door price”. Plus you are going to loss $250 deposit…now we are talking about $850. But still pjm204 is right, that is more than a “few hundred”.

Rhino is right. You will have to pay taxes when you register in your state.

Nice avatar by the way Rhino. I'm guessing it is the new X+ with PW and winglets and Proline21?? Are they changing the MMo to compete with the G650?

Just last month I bought a brand new RWB for $7995. As stated, you'll be paying tax & lic no matter what bike you buy so don't even use it for comparison.

If you can find a used one in excellent shape that has been maintained properly, it's almost certainly a better deal than buying new. If that option escapes you (as it did me, couldn't find one close) then this is just the price you pay.

The fact that you agreed to a price with the dealer and put down a deposit pretty much screws you in bargaining any further with them, IMO.

Willywil - are you happy with the price you got it for? Sure you are, that's why you agreed to the deal.

You're not getting "screwed" - its not like he just got you for $10,000.

Go get your bike (if you haven't already) and have a great f'n time on it. THAT's a good deal!

    Congrats.

I think this is a very fair price for a new 2007 VFR if it's being purchased through a Honda dealership, especially in light of the fact that they had to order the bike for you and have it delivered. Had the bike instead been sitting on their showroom floor for a good while, collecting dust, I would expect a bit lower asking-price.

Also, don't forget that dealerships are a business with very high overhead, and they are rightly entitled to make a fair and reasonable profit through selling motorcycles, and that profit margin is usually rather slim. Do you expect them to sell their motorcycles nearly at cost and remain in business for long? They offered you a fair price, you accepted it in good faith by putting a small deposit down on the motorcycle, and they in good faith ordered the motorcycle for you and now it's ready for delivery. Go get it, pay your money, stop second-guessing yourself, and start riding your beautiful new VFR.

Dealers typically make most of their profits not on selling motorcycles, but rather through their parts, accessories, and service shops. If this dealership is close to your home, and you plan on using their shop for service, you're creating the beginnings of what should be a very good and mutually beneficial business relationship with them.

Last year I bought my 2007 VFR 800A (new, in the crate) through Honda BMW Northwest in Hilliard OH. for ~$9600.00. [By comparison, a new 2008 (identical to the '07, just a different color) cost ~$2000.00 more.] My VFR is the 3rd motorcycle I've purchased through Honda BMW Northwest, so we're all on a first-name basis, and I have an excellent and trustworthy relationship with them. I get a 10% preferred-customer discount on parts and accessories. Moreover, their service mgr. and master technicians are topflight, and they've always taken very good care of me and my motorcycles.
