Congrats on your ZX 14 purchase, I sold my 02 Futura and bought an 07 blue 14 about a year and a half ago. The Futura was probabally the best bike I had ever owned, I was just getting a little worried about parts and maintence, even though I never had any trouble with it. The Futura was similar to the VFR in many ways, ergos, handling, power, and comfort. It was really plenty fast for any reasonalbe purpose, in fact I think it was as fast as the 03 FJR I had previously owned. I still always wanted a little more power, the power that a big supersport bike has. So I bought the 14 and modded it to suit my needs. My goal was to approach comfort of a sport touring machine such as the C14 Connie but have a much lighter more powerful bike. Mods that I did to achieve this include, slipons, custom seat, touring windshield, SW Motech mounts and Givi luggage, Buell foot pegs, Bar risers and a center stand. I also removed the secondary throttles and had dyno tune done, amazing the difference this makes. The 08 and newer have different ECU mapping for the secondaries, you will still see an improvement without the secondaries but not as noticeable as with the 06/07 bikes. For more detail on the mods I made, see my post on (http://www.zx14ninjaforum.com/forums). The 14 won't handle in tight stuff as well as the VFR or a Futura, but once you get it dialed in you will be able to keep pace just fine, fast sweepers and straights will make you giggle.

I actually like being able to aggressively crack open the VFR throttle and not worry much about wheel spin or popping wheelies. With a 14 it seems that constant throttle management would get old?

I just can't imagine that much power... yikes!!

Yeah I'm loving the bike BIG time. The Power is great and I think the handling is real good also. Maybe not the same as my Viffer but thats more than fine. Brake are extreemly good. I wanted to lighten her up a bit and get some noise out of her so I ordered the Muzzy M14 CF full system and the Power Comander 5 seet up. I'm also thinking of doing the flies deal. So when I get it on the dyno its done once and for all.... What year is yours? Was it hard to take out the flies? Do you have any photos? Hey who's seat did you go with?

    My bike is an 07

The seat is by Rick Mayer, he custom makes them to suit you.

I tried removing the flys myself, I printed out the instructions with photos from all who had posted about it and thought I had the right screw driver. Most people that attempted the task had no problems. It took about 15 minutes to get the plastic stripped off and inspection plates removed. I applied heat to the first screw and using the specified #2 screw driver. I promptly proceeded to strip the first phillips screw head I tried to remove. At this point I said F____ it and put it back together. I used a GI Pro TRE/gear indicator until I took it to North Valley Honda in Phoenix and they did the work for me. With my PCIII the ended up getting 176 and 111 with an awsome power and torque curve. The 08 and 09 bikes probabaly have the same low end or better than an 06 or 07 with an Ivan's or GI Pro TRE with their updated ECU mapping for the secondaries. Removing them is the hot setup however.

Some people like the muted power delivery of the 06 and 07 bikes, I thought it was dangerous. The bike was nuttered until you got midway through the rpm range then it hit like sledgehammer. I like a nice linear power delivery, what you twist is what you get.

X2 - who cares what others think. Do what YOU want - it's your money and your ride.

Everything in life is a series of compromises, pick the ones that suit you and go for it.

Some of the best advice I've ever read on VFRW. I'd add that it doesn't matter what bike you ride.

Well, speaking for myself, if two-strokes were still legal in the states for street riding I would totally have a 250 two-smoke!

I often wish I had the extra cash for one of the track versions.
