Has anyone seen this new bike yet on Honda's website? It is the new entry level sport tourer. The Interceptor is now in the "Sport" category. What's going on?

I was at the dealer today, and as usual the rumor mill is in full swing. I was told (for what that's worth) that 2010 will be the last year for the VFR and the ST1300. Honda is planning to combine them into something "New". A few minutes later he also said that the VFR was slated to become a 1200cc bike. Either that's a contradiction of his earlier statement or the "Combo Bike" will have a 1200cc engine.

As to the NT700 I like it but I think it needs a larger engine. 700 is a little small for serious touring since, in my opinion, smaller engines tend to be a little "Buzzy" on interstates. My V-Strom 650 does just fine but it does have a buzz that gets old by the end of the day. I don't care one way or the other about the shaft drive, it makes little difference to me other than making it difficult to change ratios. And as long as there is a non-ABS option I might be interested in it.

The NT700V Deauville is nothing new. It's been in the Honda Europe lineup for nearly 20 years. In reality, it is nothing more than a Honda NT650 Hawk GT that's evolved into a budget touring bike. It's the same 52d V2 that's been enlarged from 647cc to 680cc & FI'd. They only make 48HP & 50lb/ft & only have a 5 speed trans. They don't bring this bike to the US because Honda knows it won't sell. It would cost about $13200 at current exchange rates. So, if you do all the math, there is absolutely ZERO market for this bike in the US.

Well, just when I thought Honda couldn't get any dumber, they one-up themselves. For the kids reading at home, this is further proof that Honda has ZERO clue about the motorcycle market & is only riding on it's reputation. Instead of inovating & building new bikes, they transplant a bike that's running vintage 80's technology to the US market & charges $10000 for it? I really would like to know who Honda believes will buy this bike? Are they the same people who buy the Fury & DN-01?

The BMW F800ST is a FAR superior bike for not too much more money. The Deauville has exactly two advantages over the BMW.
    1) The price is lower.
    2) Hard bags are not standard on the F800ST. This is inexcusable in my opinion. This is easily fixed, since anyone with any amount of bargaining power in their body could get them included in a sale, especially in this economy.
Other than those two items, EVERYTHING on the FS is superior than that on the Deauville & I do mean everything.

Before anyone asks why I have such a dismal opinion of the Deauville, it's simple. I've actually ridden one. I rode one at an open house at a German Honda dealer & I rented one in 2003 when I was vacationing in Germany for my 30th birthday. It's an extremely under-powered bike. It's not flingable like a Hawk. It vibrates too much. You're always shifting into a 6th gear that doesn't exist. Finally, like the 6th Gen VFR, it hasn't had any meaningful updates in nearly a decade.

I don't know where to begin with all the problems Honda has in it's lineup. It's 2009, nearly 2010 & yet they still insist on using 5 speed transmissions on nearly 75% of their models. Their uber touring bike can barely get 200 miles on a tank of gas. Their best sport bike is so ugly it makes my stomach turn. They have several models that haven't been significantly updated for 5 years or more. Their new chopper looks like a plastic toy. Their new "cross-over" bike is a useless piece of junk since the scooter guys won't buy it & the bike guys wouldn't be caught dead on one. I could go on but I'm certain no one cares.

Honda Powersports is doomed to the same fate that befell GM if they don't pull their heads out of their asses & soon.

Wow, I actually like this bike.

KC-10 made some excellent points. However, I am a Honda FanBoy. Can't help it.

Love the look. It's like a better looking SV650.

This seems like a great starter bike for those who want to travel. (Note, I don't mean beginner bike).

Its honda's only small tour bike, which is actually what I wanted when I was shopping for motorcycles. It's smaller form factor and standard hardbags are a big plus. Combine that with fuel injection, a comfortable riding position, more than enough power, and a low price point, and its a winner.

To me, its marketed towards the SV crowd. People who want a stardard bike for commuting or touring, but with sportier fairings.

Again, just my opinions, and they are often wrong.

    +1

I kind of dig it, too. It probably gets pretty good gas mileage. Don't think I'd ever buy it, but I think there's a market for it. Probably those buyers looking at the BMW F800 for significantly less dough and Honda quality and reliability.

But I do agree with you, KC, about Honda having it's head stuck up its ass. Instead of a 7th gen VFR, we get a 1200cc bike. The 6th gen has been in production for 8 or 9 years, while other gens, like the fifth, were only produced for around 4 years. VTEC?

I think Honda should hire VFRWorld to consult them.

I will probably check this thing out when it hits my local dealer and hopefully give it a spin. I wish it were about 2k cheaper and/or had a bit more power and a 6 speed box.

It fits many of the requirements I've been thinking about as of late. Nice, usable bags, comfortable.

I don't have a commuter bike and I would like one. It may be heresy but by the time I got my 5th gen pretty much the way I want it, I never take it out if it looks like it's going to rain or is raining. I fret parking it anywhere. I put miles on it but it's become a nice weather bike for me.

This was not my plan as I now have two bikes that I treat this way!

So, I need something I have less emotional attachment to.

I like it as well as do these guys:

    2010 Honda NT700V vs. Aprilia Mana 850 GT ABS - Motorcycle.com

I have a 99 VFR, and don't like the price of the new 1200, I have sat on the new 1200 and the foot pegs are a little further back - I can see my knees getting sore on a long tour.
I also think the VFR1200 is too much bike then what I need...

I wish the NT700V had say the same V4 as mine - then it would be a kick @ss machine.

When they come to Canada, I will check it out as I wasn't impressed with teh BMW 800ST...
