omfg can you imagine if someone put that much work into a vfr?!
it makes me sick that a 650 twin has 10x the aftermarket of a 800 v4.
    im gonna go puke...
$4000 dollars worth of work into a $4000 bike...

The test would be then to analyze how much it would cost to do similar work to a VFR with a value of 4k instead of worrying about what some other dude did to his bike.

What it sounds like is a "sleeper."

IIRC the standard bike has about 70bhp from the factory. So this guy paid 4 grand for 12bhp - sounds like expensive power to me.
Would have been better to chop in the 650 bought a SV thou - 100bhp straight off the bat

Would probably still be left with a thousand for beer money

The SV650S is a wonderful bike to ride, cheep and friendly as a puppy and able to supprise the riders of much better machines through sets of tight twisties when HP is not a factor.

Can see spending a little money then a little more then a little more would an easy trap to fall into if a little luney, reminds me of when I spent 7K $Aus on the mechanicals of a 4k car to use a lot more Gas then sell later for half what I paid originally, huge fun for a while but totally crazy.

have you ever seen the toro super charger for the 5th gen VFR? it costs about 5,500 and the bike alone isn't even worth that much.

funds and time permitting i would have probably done the same thing, if i had a sv650.
i would definitely like to do the same thing to the vfr, but there simply isnt the aftermarket for it...
    12hp/70hp=17% percent increase in horsepower
do the same to a vfr
    17%x92hp= 108 hp
ehhh... wouldnt be worth it to me as im at 101hp right now
but maybe the vfr responds better to the engine mods? i dont know...

maybe this is a blessing, as i would be broke right now... lol

    This is the ad:
If you are looking for a real sleeper this is it. Other than an exhaust and steering damper everyone would think this is a stock bike. No one would suspect this bike puts out 82 HP at the tire on pump gas.

Water and Gravity eventually ruin everything!

Looks to me like what is being offered up for sale is a track bike.

    Current value of a 2002 Suzuki SV650..?
    Full Akspovic Exhaust..?
    Lindemann forks..?
    GPR stabilizer..?

Bottom line? IMO, most come here not to have the little girls tell them how to spend thier money.

Damn, I hope the bike ain't pink.

...and that HP figure was rear wheel HP.

    !

I'll bet it's a fun bike. Its just, an 82HP 650 is not what springs to my mind when I hear the word "superbike"

So what springs to mind if we start talking about a Boss Hog?

There is a guy that lives in my town that has one. It doesn't look like much fun, especially when he needs to turn it.

Correct me if I am in error, but I do not think there is any accurate definition for "Superbike."

Just for grins, if we estimate the sort of rated HP of a VFR at about 100 and subtract the loss from the HP at the crank less the rear wheel HP the figure becomes reasonably significant considering a VFR comes in at over 500 lbs.

This of course does not factor in a porker riding either one..;)

When you see the manufacturer's HP rating that's the rating at the flywheel in this case stock is 71 HP. But not all of that is making it to the wheel...the first gen sv650 put down about 59 hp to the wheel. So about another 20+ hp to the wheel on an sv650...not saying it's a super bike but it sure would be fun! Anyway I would have just bought an RC51 to begin with.

The superbike moniker is associated with what class the machine would be legal for, should it ever be raced. 650 and superbike are exactly what that machine is. I would have to guess that the machine was originally built as a track application.

here in NZ we have had SV 650 class racing for quite a few years
and it is very popular, mostly as an intermediate level entry to road racing.

i have to say that some of them are very quick and on the street circuts can give the 600 IL4's a jolly good run for there money.

this is NZ championship winner glen williams mount fromthis last season(09)
the new summer season starts in NOV this year.
these guys can ride the wheels off these things!
and the class is controlled to a certain degree, but alot are running quite hot set ups. i saw a list of mods to one local bike and the suspension set up was similar to the one mentioned at the top of this post.
its a great class to follow as the racing is often close and the class is well supported.
ive never ridden one but i would rate it as a great way for an experienced rider to go road racing without having to compete with open class machines
    and their associated costs.

"Built as a superbike engine" means it runs best at wide open throttle, not what anyone need for streetriding where mid-rpm power and smooth throttle response are more useful.

Big valves, flat-slide carbs, adjustable cam sprockets mean the bike may have problems running right at middle rpms, and high dyno #s at max rpm don't always make a practical street ride.

What I think of when I hear "Superbike"

I think of these guys and their +200hp machines. Thats why 82 hp superbike made me laugh.

It sounds like a fun bike. I was thinking about getting a Suk 650 for racing in couple years when I can afford it. I've read nothing but good things about them.
