can you interchange front ends (forks and tire) of same make motorcycles. idea is an 81 honda shadow and an 85 honda interceptor. Short on cash and found a guy with a shadow front end and my interceptors front end is wasted. curious if it can be done.

You said you were short on cash.
Wouldn't it be easier to just rebuild the forks you have? You said your forks are "wasted" not really. That word makes it sound like EVERYTHING is bad.
Forks need new seals from time to time.
Learn to repair things. You need to get out of the "just throw it away and get a new one mode". You could replace the seals and rebuild the front forks in just a few hours, To swap forks from another motorcycle could wind you up in a real mess.

I know you have only the best of intentions and i thank you for your input. I am sorry i did not offer an explanation on the problem. My front end is wasted because it was crushed by a front end loader while it was parked at a job site. I am familiar with replacing seals and basic low cost life extensions repairs on parts where applicable. However that is not the case here. I am not a wasteful person by nature so i assure you i would repair them if i thought that was possible. Once again thank you for your input and i agree with you.

yeah so take that!!!!!!!!!! I was actually getting ready to suggest a rebuild...but you clarified what "wasted" meant shouldn't insurance cover the repair? I would tell them that you are deeply tramatized and that for the grand total of 10,000 you could be untraumatized....:biggrin:

    \good luck on your fix

sadly no insurance will not cover it .. i bought it off the electrician at the job site when it got mangled. And no i wasn't driving the loader!! haha .. been searching salvage yards for new front ends but so far the shadow is the best i could find. was just curious if it might work.

WOW!!! A front end loader crushed it!!! Wish we had a photo.
I would be wondering if the frame is bent. Sounds like a possible new bike.

OK... If the front forks of the donor bike are the same length, same travel, and the fork leg is on the same side of the axle, and the triple trees have the same amount of offset it should work. The stem length and diameter need to be the same too. Steering head length should be taken into account.

Email everyone selling a part for your model, (Ebay, Craiglist, Forums) someone will have front end parts. Here's one near me.

Parting out all of an 85 Interceptor. Frame, lights, tires, anything you can think of. Motor will need gaskets. call 480-433-1789 or email. all of it needs to go soon.

How could not find a used front end for an '85 VF ??

85% of those bikes are resting in junkyards!!
