LOL! The first time in the grass I was trying to avoid a dog in the street and went off the road in the grass and the dog tracked right in front of me, being a newbie then I grabed a handfull of front brakes(bad idea). The second time I was coming up to a red light (5mph) gravel on the road and using only front brakes to stop cause a short front wheel skid and fall (more embarising than anything else)

Once - on my Zephre 1100...forgot that I had my disc lock in place and pulled away fast.
It's amazing how much speed you can get up in a single wheel rotation before being slammed to the ground!

I crashed an '84 V65 Sabre about 21 years ago trying to show off. Ended up sliding behind the bike like wile-e-coyote. Bruised my butt.

20-21 years later (8 wks ago), I crashed again. This time, I broke my left collar bone, left shoulder blade, top three left ribs and the sternum. And bruised the left lung. I went down in a curve on a back road in Mississippi that I now know has had at least 8 bikes 4 cars and a tractor trailer go off on the same spot. A kid was decapitated three weeks ago when he came around the curve and ran under the tractor trailer. BE CAREFUL on COLUMBIA-PURVIS road in Mississippi.

I've dropped my CX once and my VF500F twice. The CX was while I was trying to get it out of gear so I could move it in a parking lot. It started tipping away from me and when the center of gravity went over I couldn't pull it back. The VF the first time was when I was trying to turn around on a hill with a pretty good slope. The other was backing out of my driveway to quickly (also on a hill). I broke the front break lever the last time I dropped the VF. Other than that I've never had any damage.

my first bike (cb 175) locked front wheel on grass at end of driveway went down. 2nd bike (cb 750) was trying 360 burnout in road in front of friends house went down hard on my leg.

i dumped my vfr once at about 25. low sided it on the road right in front of where i had just had a new rear tire put on. boy, did my buddy at the bike shop laugh. amazingly the bike slid about 30 feet and did no major damage just scraped the right bar end and footpegs. i, however, in a imature fit of rage as ryans warnings about a new tire ran threw my head, picked myself up and threw my helmet which of course shattered the face shield and busted it all to heck. that was the most damage caused by the whole accident....

I haven't crashed this week.... but that's only because I'm still in pain from the cracked ribs I got at the hands of the 1098 two weeks ago. Broken ribs are a bastard.

OK, I'll admit to "bedding" it once or twice, but we love each other so that makes it alright.

I low sided my bike at 30MPH on 2 Oct. I slid 27 feet (tape measured) on my right shoulder & hip. I was wearing my JR SpeedMaster leather jacket & my Icon TiMax kevlar reinforced textile pants. I walked away without even a bruise, no exageration at all, not a mark on me. Had I been wearing jeans or anything other than leather with armour, I would most assuredly gone to the hospital.

The bike wasn't so lucky. I had to replace:
    nose cowl
    right turn signal
    right mirror
    right fairing
    brake pedal
    brake pedal mount
    clutch cover
    some minor hardware

Street price would have been $1850, my price was $1000. I went on leave to Germany on 5 Oct. I got back from leave on 17 Oct & the bike was completely fixed & back to road worthy 18 Oct.

How did this happen you ask? I was teaching a USAF AMC Sport Bike class. That's right, I crashed in front of novice riders looking to me for metorship. The low side was a combination (like it almost always is) of factors. Those factors were:
    1) cold tires
    2) trying to demo something that is not part of the curiculum (like a dumb-ass)
    3) not wearing the proper gear

Let's break those factors down for the kids at home.

    1) Cold Tires.
It was an indicated 50f that day. I rode 8 miles to the classroom. The bike sat for 1 hour for the video & admin. Rode 1/2 mile to the range. The bike sat for 45 minutes. I then tried to demo a skill requiring max lean angles. Not good. When I rolled on the gas at the apex, my cold tire simply didn't have the grip it would have after some normal aggressive riding.

    2) Trying To Demo A Skill Not Part Of The Curriculum.
One of the riders asked just how far a bike can be leaned. I told him unless he feels machinery touching the ground, the bike can lean more. He then asked to see what it looked like.

    3) Not Wearing The Proper Gear.
My TCX race boots are comfy but not as comfy as my USAF boots. I routinely wear the USAF boots on the the range since I walk more than ride. This was/is a mistake. When I approached max/parts dragging lean, my toe hit the ground. Has I been wearing my leather pants or my race boots, I would have felt my sliders contact & backed off. Instead, my USAF boots with non-skid soles hit the ground & stopped. Right freaking now. My boot was ripped of the peg & actually went into the path/under my rear tire. This compounded with the cold tire meant there was no saving the situation.

Man, talk about feeling like a freaking dumbass. I swear to all that's holy, the rider that asked for the demo asked if he was suppossed to low side too.

Feel free to ask me any questions. I feel like a total dumbass so at least someone might be able to learn from this. I'm the coach, I'm not suppossed to crash.

    KC-10 FE out...

I low sided my CBR 954 at the end of the season last year. Was going through a corner in and intersection and front tire slide out on me. Rode the bike home and then got x-rays at the ER. I had a slightly separated shoulder and some bruises, other than that fine. Luckily, I just put frame sliders on the CBR 2 weeks before hand. That took the brunt of the damage.

The VFR I have laid down three times. Twice in the garage, once on each side. Note to self: never have the side stand up when lowering from the centerstand. 2nd note to self: Get ON THE BIKE while lowering from the centerstand.

The third time I was at a stop on a hill, she started to fall to the left and I tried to stop it. Resulted in a badly pulled right hamstring and a busted footpeg.
