    Exhaust Woes *updated*

I have an 04 and have been thinking about getting some exhaust, but I do not like the looks of any exhaust kits I have seen. I would buy the Lasers and paint them black, but they are hard to find in the US (if you know anywhere I can get these conveniently besides FosterRAD let me know)

I noticed the new R1 exhaust cans from Yoshimura look like they would fit perfectly in the awkward gap of the VFR, but no kits are available and would have to fabricate a midpipe. I would have to find someone to do a pro job at this. This seems like a lot of work to do just to have an exhaust I can live with.

I have seen someone put the R1 stock exhaust on and fab a midpipe. I might just have to find a set of these for cheap and fab a midpipe or just stick with stock.

Foster RAD and piss poor customer service

I have not one good thing to say about FosterRAD or Laser. Not sure why you do not want to deal with them but a wise move.

Your thread is enough to make me not want to deal with them.

I emailed Yoshimura about my complaint for not having a system.
The reply didnt make sense to me. the 98-01 were single exhaust coming out the side - normal exhaust - lots of exhaust manufacturers can make this - more competition. Also that is only a 4 year model instead of 02-09 8-year model.
The 6th Gen is a bit more difficult to make and I have yet to see anyone make a pipe that fits the bike like it should - I dont even like the looks of the stock one that much.

FWIW, I will be going with the Lasers when I get around to it. My local mechanic is a dealer for Speigler and he will be ordering them for me from there. He has ordered several Laser systems and not had a problem with them, although none for a VFR. Anything that he has ever had a problem with through Speigler has been taken care of very quickly and without hassle through Speigler.

Toe's problems scare me a bit but with my mech and Speigler standing behind the product, I'm not too worried about it.

    Laser factory

I have been in contact with Laser and sent all the pictures and info they requested and they just wanted the parts and would only deal with Foster....I wish they would have just stated that before I spent a week sending e-mails and pics.

I like the way the looks and sound of both two brothers and Leo Vince (w/no baffles). However, I cannot bring myself to owning a system with a fake muffler on one side (Two Bros). There are lots who own the Leo Vince systems, and that was my second choice. I am in the process of getting a Devil Exhaust setup. It sounds awesome and although you can't find them anywhere, I did. It's sounds great and looks great, but if it falls through, I am going with LV Carbon Fiber.

On another note: Got my Fender Eliminator installed and it looks AWESOME, compared to the stock fender IMO. Makes the single sided swing arm more visible and the lines of the whole bike change, more Ducate-esque...

None of these systems are true duals. We have a 4-2-1 header on our bikes. There is no reason for having it split back into 2 separate mufflers. Only when dealing with restrictive oem mufflers, is there a benefit to splitting into 2 separate mufflers, but, with aftermarket cans that offer close to 100% flow, there is no gain in adding another can. I could possibly see a benefit to 2 mufflers, if you ran with your silencers in all the time, but then I don't think you would be all that concerned with performance anyways... Essentially all the systems that start at only one collector and split into two pipes with two separate mufflers are just for looks (like the 2bros dummy cans) anyways. I believe two brothers got it right with the dummy can. Adding a Y pipe and extra piping/bends is only going to add restriction and weight. There would be no flow or performance benefit. Also I have the option of removing the dummy can for added weight savings on track days, not to mention how incredibly easy installation and removal of the Two brothers is...

it does sound kinda dumb, hanging a fake can.
but that thing goes from zero to hero when you pop it open and store stuff in it. i can fit a whole bottle of wine in it.

the 2 bros came on my bike when i bought it. along with the fender delete, and i must say it looks good, and also sounds even better.

I purchased the stock exhaust from ebay for $89 and plan to do a custom gut job - as well as paint it black!

I've seen where guys will buy a spare used VTEC exhaust, chop the stock cans off and adapt a set of R-1 mufflers to it.

It's quite doable, and if you're dealing with an EBAY stock exhaust that you picked up for a song, then there's very little trepidation with regard to chopping it up.

Absolutely correct Sir, 2 Bros. is the only pipe manufactorer to recogignize this problem and do something constructive with the design in the way of shaving Y-pipe weight off. To my knowlege 2bros. is the lightest slip on you can buy, several lbs. lighter than the competition and about 18lbs. lighter than OEM. Their design also adds a few more pounds of torque above and beyond what the other producers are turning out and about 7lbs. more than OEM. All thanks to the one can design. The only reason what-so-ever for the dumby can is that the bike just looks stupid without it, which is all the reason I needed.

Full gut job almost completed - it was definitely not easy to get all the baffles out. I still have to make the exhaust outlets a little bigger and get everything ready to get painted black

I really like the 2 Brothers and don't care if the 2nd can doesn't do anything. Isn't performance what you are really looking for?

If the money is a factor call 2-Bros and maybe they will sell you their system with just 1 can.

Little bit of a weight reduction mod huh? You gotta love the look of the stock cans, the way they don't leave any gaps or such and hide the licence plate, oh so well... I would like to see a hybrid or Frankenstein, if you will, with the stock cans fully gutted and aftermarket piping slip on and y pipe sections. It would look awesome, sound awesome, be decently light, and probably make as much hp as your average slip-on...
