LOL what an idiotic idea... Think about it. Not both eyes will be the same and you gotta split the face shield in half and that doesn't even work right because you could have your left eye looking over the right side.

Not possible...Like others said, different rx in each eye + separate optical centers for each, + distance to cornea...bla bla blahttp://vfrworld.com/photos/data/743/2thumbs.gif

First of all plenty of people have the same imparment in both eyes. and even if not some people, like myself for instance, have both a small enough imparment that having a prescription face shield would be actually quite helpfull. The only time i NEED glasses is reading street signs.

Of course its been a while since iv even warn my glasses (pretty much since I ran them over with my bike trailer). I pass roads often because I have trouble reading the street sign.

I've wanted a perscription sheild for years now! Something was making me think that a helmet manufacturer was working on this for the open wheel racers. I can't remember the details, but I'm sure it was uber expensive.

It's a good thing there are people out there who don't have the "it can't be done" attitude or we probably wounldn't even have the motorcycles we love today.

I wish it were that simple, but, you need to have an optical center for each eye unless the lens has no power. If the lens has any power at all there is one defined optical center. If you are not looking through the optical center you're looking through prism (not good) (think double vision).

great question iv often wondered about this. since i took up racing its kinda frowned upon to wear glasses for safety reasons. contacts were suggested . i cant see why a lens cant be attached to inside of face shield somehow.

You can attach an rx adapter to the shield, and mount lenses in that. I've made them for firefighters helmets.

I had some awesome glasses with graduated lenses, photo gray, and twistoflex (?) frames. I wore them under my helmet and I could read my gauges, my Sirius Radio screen, and see distances perfectly. I lost them at the Mid-Ohio Vintage Track Days races earlier this year, and haven't had the $400.00 needed to replace them. My ass is still sore from me kicking myself for doing this.

So I'm struggling along with a pair of $12.00 drugstore reading glasses. This really sucks. When I need to read something, I have to pull over and put the crappy reading glasses on. At least my GPS can talk to me!

I found several US patents on the subject, so it appears that someone thinks it's possible.

Oakley makes prescription sungasses that might be small enough to wear with a helmet on. The U.S. Military trusts their durability and they have a little bit of style.
