So the reality is it all comes down to my wife's comfort; this new bike is for her (as a pillion), and she already gave the C14 her thumbs up. But, based on many a picture compare with 2up riding, the seating position (primarily the pillion peg location) appears comparable on the 7th gen; thus the wife has given a tentative thumbs up to it, pending an actual ass-on-seat test by her. If the VFR passes, then that'll be the new bike added to the garage next spring.

The 800 stays, primarily for me as a solo "fun" bike, as well as for nostalgia's sake; I have always wanted one since the original '83 repli-race-look of the original sucked me in. Thus I'm keeping it like a classic car, for my own fun.

if i had the money i'd be putting a deposit down asap.
i have no concerns about bugs in first year production motorcycles/vehicles made by honda.

regardless i would have to wait one year (or more) as i'm more interested in the dct model which is slated for release a year later.

My Lawn mower and pressure washer are Hkndas too. They are in th $20K range here. Big money. I would wait for the bugs to be picked out...if any developes. That should be by 2011. But I am not fond of the styling of the 2010

I like the look, and want one. BUT! 'Fly by wire' needs to be proven and the tank size/range needs to be greater (For a touring bike).
I am also hearing rumours that major service intervals are going to cost a fortune due to engine complexity and shaft drive.
I shall always keep my 99 Wiffer, although if I can afford a new bike in the next couple of years I would like it to be a VFR12, but not at any cost/price if the FJR, Beemer K1300S or Kwaker GTR are still strong on price and reliability at that time.

Not for several years. I've already got a sport tourer that I'm very happy with. So the next bike will be a pure sport and since Honda decided not to go with a V4 superbike than I guess I'm only left with one option, not that the VFR will be vacating my garage any time soon.

I think I'll wait. I am scared of a first year new model and I am curious to see how the DCT tranny works out - if F1 and Porsche uses it there must be something to it.

Besides, my '08 VFR and '08 FJR are great bikes.

If I wanted to pay BMW prices for a bike, I would buy a BMW.

Given the fact to idiotic DN-01 is $15000, the antiquated Fury is $13000 & the NT700V is $10000, you can bet the new VFR will be in the $17000-$20000 range. If this new bike DOES NOT come with bags standard for whatever it costs, I would like to be the first to invite Honda Powersports to fellate a penis at the first oppurtunity.

If "ironing out the bugs" really means redesigning the front fairing and coming up with decent colour schemes... I'll wait.

Is a BMW MC really that much better that people are willing to pay the higher cost but will not even consider another MC if it meant paying the same amount as a BMW?

What features, technical advances and engineering gives a comparable BMW MC the advantage over the VFR 1200F?

Or is it simply the BMW badge people are paying for?

I will definitely have one, but in the conventional 6 spd. Half the reason of owning a bike in the first place is being able to drive a clutch. I already own a Rincon 4 wheeler and rarely use the 'auto' mode.

    You proved my point.

There is nothing that technoligically advanced on a BMW to justify the added cost. The only real thing that stands out is the very readily visible build quality, the tremendous amount of factory available accessories, the 1000% better support from the dealers & BMW's usually have a better warranty.

That being said, if I want to pay $17000-$20000 for a bike, it damn well better come with those advantages. Sadly, 90% of the time a person buys a Honda, the dealer usually forgets you the minute you walk out the door & ignores you when you need service. When you buy a BMW, BMW takes care of you. This is why you see people owning BMW's for decades. The only company that takes care of their buyers better than BMW is HD.

So, if I am to shell out nearly $20000 for a bike, I want to be taken care of. I know for certain, Honda will not do that. My current VFR's are the last new Honda's I will ever buy. I will buy some classics if I can get my hands on them, but if I'm buying a new ride, it's going to be a Ducati (just because I want one), a BMW or a Victory if I ever go the cruiser route.

In a couple of weeks the annual International Motorcycle Show will be held in San Mateo, CA.

The dates of the show are November 20, 21, 22.

DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THE VFR1200 WILL BE THERE?

I've worked in these shows many years ago and have always enjoyed it.

Before the show moved to San Mateo it use to be held in San Francisco where I had the pleasure
of showing two of my bikes at the same time. Honda RC30 and Suzuki RG500 Gamma (Walter Wolf).
Damn, I wish I still had those two bikes.

If you've never been to one of these shows you owe it to yourself to go. Tons of eye candy !

That you'll buy a BMW because it's a BMW and the perceived advantage on build quality, included accessories, 1000% better dealer support and better warranty.

Do you base this on personal experience, what and how many BMW MC's have you owned?

I have owned BMW MC's and so has family and friends. My experience as a BMW owner as well as some of my family and friends does not resemble your ownership experiences 100% of the time.

BMW's are good MC's but to me the higher cost does not translate to a better bike.

A lot of people base their opinions on what they hear or read, owners base theirs from personal experience.

You are correct, I have never owned a BMW. All my experiences with them are based on short rides, examinations in a dealer & the occasional demo ride. If you can't see the better build quality in a BMW compared to just about any bike on the market, then that's your opinion & we'll agree to disagree. My main kudo to BMW involves the fact that they DO NOT care about fads or trends or magazine reviews. BMW builds bikes that work in the real world plain & simple. Since you & I both own a VFR, we can agree that a bike that works for the real world is 100 times more valuable than one that can hit ludicrous speed.

    I don't;
I have owned and worked on German cars for decades and they are well made cars but superior to Hondas I don not think so. I have ridden BMW bikes starting in the early seventies to date; almost every model; top heavy with no front end feel sums it up.
