So I was really hoping to rebuild my forks with race tech springs and gold valves, but I can't swing the 600 bucks at the moment. What are some other good mods that are cheaper? I have a 96 VFR with 42xxx on the clock. Already have bar risers and a micron pipe from the PO. I am ordering a K&N filter and putting that in next pay check but what are some other good mods? I do was doing a 140 mile commute on it and days that it is above 50 I still will be. Thank you guys and ladies for all of hte help I am sure will be coming.

Contact Jamie here he can do the Forks for you at a savings. Also recommend to get a rear shock like the 929 mod on the rear at the same time.

Have you set the sag and preloads yet?

I know that despite the fact that the VFR is kind of mushy in the stock suspension department, a few turns of the adjusters made mine feel like a new bike, especially with a passenger.

Spray paint the valves gold. Sounds silly but it will look good and make you feel good too. Of course change the oil and adjust preload etc,etc.,. I would also spray the triple clamps gold too since you have it all apart.

HAHAH, thanks for the spray paint idea, not sure how it will look on a black and silver bike though. Will just the oil and springs make a big difference? Will the manual tell me how to adjust sag? I think I have the preload set as tight as it will go, but I am not sure. I am a total noob when it comes to working on them but am dieing to learn. Would a Haynes manual help me with the basics? I will PM Jaime now thanks.

Is the 600$ for parts alone?
I have to do redo my forks and looking at the possibilities.

I found last weekend that one of my fork seal leaks. Bought the bike in August (5th gen '98) and despite careful inspection, it happened again (3rd time in a row seal brake 1st season I buy a bike).

I have RT gold valve emulator in my 84 vfkf and I like it a lot. Broke a cam chain in August (hence the vfr800 :). I tought I had only the vfkf engine to do this winter but it seems I'll do the vfr800 forks too. Still riding around 0C, winter will not be long enough.

Yeah that was only for parts, did not include shipping or labor. PM Jaime he is going to do my forks in december and he is charging me about half. He explained everything to me and we worked out the best set up for me. Shoot him a PM and I am sure you wont be sorry.

Raceteching your front suspension costs $630 with labor. Sales tax (if you live in CA) is another $50. I don't know how much shipping is because I dropped of and picked up my forks, since their HQ is only about 1.5 hours away.

I think Mello Dude just changed to stiffer springs and a different space or something like that then adjusted the preload and changed to oil. He said (if I remember correctly) that there was a noticeable improvement.

    Red,

Sure, I'd love to help you out with that. I would suggest going with new springs and compression valves but keeping the stock rebound valves with a new shim stack on them. That will give you a good improvement while keeping the costs down. That is the formula I use for most street and trackday riders.

The cost for the springs and valving upgrade would be $295. That would include the above mentioned valving work setup for you, new springs matched to your weight, cleaning and new fluid. If you wanted to have the forks serviced that would be a good time for that as well. Figure on $40 for new seals and $10 each for bushings as required.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask!

He uses Sonic springs instead of Racetech but that is still a hell of a difference and will have him do the work over December.
