    Ok,

I've been wanting to get a pair of street/ track riding boots, and have been looking at the Alpinestars S-MX Plus, or the SIDI Vertigo boots. But as you can guess, at 3 bills for a pair of either boots is a bit prohibitive.

Is buying used boots a good idea?

Cant see why it would be all that bad except for the smell of course... :faint2:

They're not like helmets that are a critical to impacts or abuse IMO.

I've done it. Got a damn near perfect set of boots for about $100 off. No stinky smells either. Shop around though and definitley test fit for size at the store.

I see no problem as long as they weren't crash tested.

I got a pair of the Sidi Vertigo Air for 200 bucks used. Wore them home. Love them very much. They were in great shape. If they were tore up or stinky I would not have bought them.

I won't get boots or helmets used. Other gear is pretty much fair game. Those two items seem too intimate. Heehee. Used is a relative term. If a guy puts on a pair of boots and walks around the store you could claim they're used. Anyways that's just me and you asked for opinions.

I would not but a used helmet but everything else would not bother me as long as it was clean and in like new or very good shape. There are probobly tons of great deals on used gear left over from squids that got store credit incentives to buy gear when they bought their brand new gsxr 1000 and never even wore it...

I could be wrong, but I tink Athlete's Foot is viral. A good drying and airing out should eliminate that concern. Or there are sprays out there for this. But yeah. AThlete's foot is not nice. I've had it often

I have purchased Sidi boots used. Still using them! I say it's a smart purchase if you have the patience to shop for a used pair.

inspect first then decide. you be the judge. you'll be surprised how much you'll save compared to brand new boots.

Used gear is a personal choice, some folks don't get a good feeling using it, some don't mind. The way I see it is this: if you can't afford new, then get the next best thing. Better to have used gear in an off, than no gear at all. Do what you need to keep yourself protected and when you can afford it, treat yourself.

Here is a good link to new and used gear

I would almost wait until after Christams now. SOmetimes people get things from parents off web sites that are the wrong size and off to eBay they go.
