This mod is usually performed by ex-cons who spent a few years in a small cell with a Bubba and now have to wear Tampax in their assholes so they don't shit themselves. I'm just sayin'!

Mods are like superstitious junk (i.e: amulets, rings, rabbits foot, four leaf clovers etc.) No reason to do either but we do them anyways.

Mods for appearance: Beauty lies in the eye of the beerholder.

Mods for performance: General human tendency is to blame everything else before riding skill. So mod away till you cannot blame the bike anymore, then I guess you will see where the problem truly lies and will take action to rectify (riding classes).

First of all, Bubba, thanks for the gut busting laughs. Now...

    The mods/farkles I'm happy I did:
    1. Sliders (already saved me some expensive grief)
    2. Lobstenders
    3. VistaCruise
    4. Good tires
    5. HeliBars (I'm old)
    6. Buell Footpegs (I'm still old)
    7. GPS (for the speedometer function mostly)
    8. Satellite Radio (for long trips)
The stuff I maybe wouldn't do again:
    1. ScottOiler
    2. Shift Kit
    3. Audiovox Cruise Control
The things I just don't give a crap about:
    1. Chrome
    2. Bling of any kind
    3. A clean bike
    4. Worrying about paint scratches (I just could not care less)
    5. Trying to look cool (I can't)

if this carried the weight that it seems to, Shinko would be the most used tire in the world.

You know the very best performance mod I and a lot of other riders I have seen could undertake?

The rider losing weight (in my case 60lb) so that the bike has got less weight to haul around. Cheap (free even) seat of the pants performance increase, and better health.

Now I just need to apply my own advice... lol

AND I had a chopped OEM fender when I bought my bike, swapped it with a guy who had an unmodified fender, as I got sick of water and crap being thrown all over my OEM trunk.

I have the utmost respect for you, Betarace, but I would like to respond with my take on your post. This post is about VFR's...not race bred machines like a 999s Ducati Nera, however some of the content is relavent, no matter what you ride.

My goal isn't to be the fastest guy in the group, or that I am the alpha dog and can talk shit to a captive audience of my riding buddies. My goal is to have FUN and enjoy the experience.

I too have taken the Code school and I'm going to take it again, but I get just as much enjoyment from the motorcycle experience, by understanding how my bike works and learning how the entire puzzle fits together and how changing the pieces of the puzzle effects the bike. I believe that the mechanical part of the riding equation is mostly overlooked. It is a lot easier and a lot cheaper to just ignore this aspect.

Anybody who has the the opinion that improving the mechanical functionality of their machine is a waste of time, and won't help in the development of their riding skills, well, I politely disagree. It will help you to be a smarter and better rider if you understand the physics and operation of your machine. You will never be able to extract the best out of yourself, unless the machine is up to the task. I will just use suspension adjustment and component upgrades as an example. It doesn't matter how many times you take a class, if the bike doesn't operate correctly and you don't get a good feeling from it, you won't go any quicker, or be any safer. If this were true, there wouldn't be sticky tires and adjustable suspension. You would just do a hundred school days a year and ride around the rest of it. We all know this is not the case.

If I was getting paid to be the fastest guy, I would certainly have a different approach, but I have no illusions of showing up in Roadracing World anytime soon and I doubt that anybody from this site will either. Taking such a hardcore approach to something that really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things, is quite humorous to me. I won't enjoy my machine any more, or any less, than I already do, even if I take the CodeRace class a hundred times. I'm not a racer, never will be and I harbor no illusions that there is always gonna be somebody faster or more skilled than I am.

The goal for me is to have fun and enjoy the overall experience, and for me that includes, performing mods on my machine.

The Interceptor stickers just do not look good and the second thing I did was peel them off (looking to get rid of the hard case labels too). The VFR gets more attention now from peeps wanting to know about the bike, though there was this one time in OKC when a motorcycle LEO pulled me over because he "couldn't tell what bike it was"...

I agree. Those faster and more skilled appear with regularity on this very website with great frequency.

Since I ride a basically stock bike, I agree that the RIDER MOD is the first thing to do. Then some performance work. I research everything and want to learn all I can about my bike and how it works. I am taking it slow with mods but they are coming.

$26 can get you a book(several on the market) that will greatly improve your insight into your bike and riding. Spend some time researching your bike and mods don't just take the first thing you hear as law. Understand what the parts do .... Knowledge is free to those who seek it Or you can pay someone else that has it.

Not sure I said anything here .

That's right! Call him out crusty.

I put the "Gay Meter" on the screen and it read all the way to "Clay Aiken" on the dial for 300:eek:

He needs to prove us wrong and pics are the only way out!

Just want to clarify that my statements apply to me more so than anyone else. No trying to be holier than thou, hardcore or derogatory to anyone who mod their bikes .I know you are not calling me out. But I felt I had to clarify.
