Is my petcock missing something?!

I unscrewed this part form my petcock assembly, and the parts diagram I have shows me there should be another part in there...? Like a small filter thing?

in the parts diagram it's part #6, but it isn't for sale on this site or on bikebandit.com... any suggestions?!

 

Mine is empty too!! I'm ready to get rid of my petcock altogether and go with some kind of universal valve direct to my gas tank and fuel line. Mine leaks and is giving me a headache.

 

Well for what it's worth, I went to Honda direct line's website and found that this 'missing piece' is discontinued for an '86, but they do have the same exact part for an '85. I got it along with a large order while I was getting other things I figured why not... The part fits, I'm not sure what it does, but they said it looks like the same part, only the '86 is discontinued, and didn't give any guarantees that the '85 part would work (their professional disclaimer). I'll have to start a blog page here to document my restoration...!

 

he said petcock..............god I am juvenile.................... when you figure out if the cross reference parts works post up...when You said discontinued, is that they don't make it (obviously) or was it discontinued being made in the actual motorcycle?

 

I meant Honda doesn't make the part anymore. I'm pretty sure the '86 still is supposed to have this part, as it is pictured in the diagram in the link in a few posts above. It's just weird because I'm almost sure the previous owners would have only taken the bike apart to paint it, but for some reason this part was missing.

 

That is the fuel cup strain assembly. You are missing the screen. Hard to find.An in-line fuel filter between the petcock and carbs works good too. Take a look at Daughertys valve body modification. Could be what you need. You can eliminate the diaphrams and go gravity feed. Just a thought. Mike.
