    Guys,
Well dayum,is this one past a well intentioned post? Maybe yes maybe no but here goes....
A few years back Valvoline dropped a "Synthetic" brake fluid on the market...bot a DOT5 but a 4 that has a fairly high boiling point, won't hurt paint, and won't break the bank when you buy a qt of it either...Knowing how good products come and go I got me a case of it and stashed up like 5 qts.....I have used it in my Classic GS850GN my now gone and missed TL1000S , soon to be used in my ST1300 and my VFR..oh its in use in my wifes lil V-Star Cruiser.....I can post up re the DOT5 in a conventional brake system.....DON'T do it...To the OP of this thread if you don't want a fubared system leave this crap out of your bike it will attack rubber bits in a way you won't like...or if you have knowledge above the rest of us mere mortals gohead..and please keep us informed as to how well it works out for you...For what its worth I had to rebuild the entire system of my old GS because of DOT5....mastercylinder hand and foot brakes and th calipers....never really did get all of that crap out of the hoses ended up with a set of Russell lines for my effort....The Valvoline has worked very well for me sunce...

Thanks - this is good information!! I tried the DOT 5 in my bike after I delinked the brakes and I don't like it at all. I'm rebuilding the masters and calipers this winter and was planning to go back to a good DOT 4, but I hate the way it messes up paint. This Valvoline synthetic you've mentioned sounds interesting. Do they still sell it? If so, what is it called? Thanks. STEVE

    WOW

this is what they call a classic case of H.I.C.K.s ( head in cement syndrome) if I ever seen one.

1). ok so you got left over 5.1 - as you say, you have used it in your R1 - did your R-1 have dot 4? then you already knew the answer to your??
2). go with stainless brake lines, that is an upgrade, not just going to dot 5.1 fluid.
3). 2 sets of wheels or Tires ?

yes used it in the R1 and was great ... the R! doesnt have LBS, u rednecks need to read more my original questions was about the changing it in the VFR if there would be problems because of the LBS..... THERE ISNT WORKS AWESOME
No left over went and bought it Brand new @ 13 bucks cdn a bottle...i really dont care bout the money and yea i did put 2 brand new tires on it and new front and rear pads... could have gotten maybe another 2000k till the fronts where @ limit ( pads) and another rear tire b4 i had to change the front... but yet again its only time and money and do to a drunk driver, driving a corp truck, hitting me on my bike 2 yr ago, i have lots of both. and the stainless brake lines is a good idea, i finished everything else and need another project

Thanks. The fan upgrade made a difference, but not huge. I also swapped the fan switch with the Nissan Pulsar part discussed in the forum for the fan blade modification. The two together definately helped, since the fan now comes on much sooner, so it doesn't have to work as hard to cool things down. Next I want to change out the thermostat, since I'm going to have the throttle bodies off this winter to do some other work. I recall someone on a forum somewhere had found a cooler thermostat that would fit the VFR. That should be the last piece of the cooling upgrade puzzle. I just bought some Engine Ice as well, which I will use when I button it all back up.

I am trying to figure out how to post some pics of my fork swap/brake mod. I have lots of pics, just need to figure out how to post them...Duuhh... :)
