In the VFR only use Motul 5100 Semi-synthetic for motorcycles.

Since this thread started, I have actually changed oils (brands). I am tryin out the castrol actevo because it was much cheaper than the amsoil. the amsoil kept going up and I got fed up with it. I haven't really noticed a difference other than I had more money left over. I suspect as someone else said, as long as you regularly change the oil and filter you are probably ok. as far as the friction modifiers things goes, hell if I know. I get the oil that says it's for motorcycles just in case. I change my oil too often to pay $10 a qt though...

Only MOTUL 5100... Have used LM and Castrol - don't like it. I think for clutch Motul semi synthetic is the best

    I'm with ya reg.

When I do my oil change this spring I am going to Shell Rotella T 5w-40 Synthetic. Between track days and street riding the 40.00 (or more sometimes) dollar oil changes are getting retarded.

I used to be able to buy Amsoil for 6-7 bucks a quart if I bought a case. Not anymore. I'd only save .50 cents a quart, WTF?

Fellow track riders rave about the Rotella so I am going with it 20 dollars oil changes are more my speed.

Here's my question: all other things being equal, why would anyone buy 15w-40 or 10w-40 when 5w-40 or even 0w-40 will flow much more easily (less wear on startup)?

I've been using this in my old GS750 for several years. Stays inside and lasts as long as anything else. IIRC it also has a bunch of zinc or phosphorus or something, along with other magical ingredients that are good for the bikes innards. Come my next oil change it'll be going in the VFR too.

I use regular car oil Mobile 1 15w/50 in the dozen bikes I have owned with no problems whatsoever.
For about $10 a gallon more I also use the Motul 5100. I don't really notice any difference between the two and the Motul is bike specific.
Also use the purolator filters and the Wally World ones and the Honda Car engine OEM filters from my Civic - all work fine with no problems.
' Cos I have heard great things about the Shell Rotella 5/40 DIESEL synthetic at my last change I put in the new Mobile 1 fully synthetic truck turbo diesel oil!

    For cooking......"Olio de Oliva"

... it's gotta be extra virgin first cold pressed from carefully hand-selected olives grown in Spain, the south of France, or the Tuscany region of Italy, lovingly mashed to pulp by illiterate peasants on a stone wheel of ancient vintage, pulled by a Sicilian donkey, pressed by hand with reverence and boldly bottled unfiltered.

When your taking swigs of oil right from the bottle, you know it's good !!!

ahhhh the great oil threads.. I am impressed with the honda gn4 oil it is smooth shifting etc, i also use slick50 lol, hehehe, oils i have used back in the day penzoil, then mobil one, yamalube, kawaski, then bel ray exp i like that alot and exs but its hard to find, maxima, silkolene, golden spectro not impressed at all base stock honda better, i have semi-synth golden spec left i will try it and see but i think i will eventually go back to belray or stay with the honda line synthetics.............how i tell is the drive train noise and how smooth it shifts to me is how the oil is holding up...after i broke in the bike the honda line seems very smooth and valve train is quiet..and its cheaper then the others i listed .......................no the real question what about Z-MAX???
