Sweet. I like that color. Your pics look very nice. So the big question is? Does the range of the gas tank seem to be an issue for you at all? I think I could see myself riding one of those babies in a few years when I'm ready for something with a little more refinement...

Can I just double check that you said that this thing needed 96 octane??? Canada doesn't sell 96, 94 @ chevron is the highest I've seen. Is this true? If it is, what method is used? We use an average of the research method and another that I can't remember. Love the rear tire scrub marks; "Giver eh?" Love the shaft drive too. Looking fw to milage figures, aftermarket exhaust and I hope the aftermarket makes a bigger tank if it's needed. If it's reliable especially the DCT they will have done a good job of gettig us a great bike.

im quite surprized on this, 100km's has moved one bar off the fuel guage. maybe it uses the bottom bars up fast???
any how once i get to the end of the tank i'll post the findings and may be again as an average over 3 or 4 tanks.

    Still don't like the head shot of the beast; but I do really dig the rear end, body panel blending with the tank, and those inverted UST forks up front. First thought I had was, { Wonder who will be the first to try these forks on an older bike? }
I do like to play Dr. Frankenstein. :)

Wow, awesome review. I agree with most that this isnt the bike for me just yet, but everyone has to change with the times. BEAUTIFUL bike tho! And sounds like a runner for sure.

The 91 or 92 you buy here will be fine. In NZ they are probably using the RON ratings.

I guess I see what the designers were shooting for with that shape of muffler. Its triangular shape "compliments" the angular tail of the bike. I don't think it's absolutely hideous, but it's way too large (deep from top to bottom) and obscures the sexy SSSA exposure of the rear wheel. Wonder what alternatives will be available soon . . . .

Just read this months issue of MOTORCYCLIST where they pretty much summed it up like Richard, they even were annoyed over the horn button as well. Puts down some fair numbers and they too made notice of the slop in the drive train where it takes a fine set of hands to control it, over all they thought it was a good machine, a place between a Busa and the BMW. they got a 10.22 quarter with a top speed 157 bumping up against the rev limit. LOL maybe in time it will grow on me. but for sure it needs to be in another color.

    whats under the seat?

well heres a quick peak. it all looks vaguely familiar...

saimilar to the 6th gen except for that interesting unit next to the rear master cylinder....im assuming that this is the servo motor control for the exhaust valve. you can see where the control cables attach at the bottom.
the tool kit sits neatl in the middle and was quite basic compared to other VFR tool kits i have seen. i was intrigued by the 'pulling' device....a steel cables with loops at each end???
had a quick flick thru the owners manual but didnt see it mentioned. must have a use somewhere?
the owners manual is a single language item, it has good reference to all front / rear suspension adjustments as well as the usual array of info on how to use all the buttons etc...
one thing i did like was that you can set the dash to MPH or KMPH.

Nice, to see down under. haha. My god look at the size of that battery, my quick take on the double loop thingymagig is a tie down strap?? I tell ya Richard you should work for the magazines way more info here. but then on the other had it's way cooler for it to be here. Wonder if you google VFR1200 this shows up? Was the seat a PITA to get off? what about whats under it's skin?

the seat was easy to get off. the release keyhole is underneath the tail light and takes only a quarter turn to unlock. you wont hear it pop or anything so just grab the edge of the seat and lift while you have the key in the unlocked position.
very similar to a sixth gen seat to get on/off.

the seat has an interesting profile, and is nicely narrow at the tank juncture. this overhead gives a good idea of its shape.
i kind of like the little dimple in the middle too.

as for the double loop thingy....i plan to attach it either side of that stock can and use it to launch it 'hammer throw' style
as far away as i can get it....once i find a suitable replacement of course.

i think i jinxed myself on this one. i rode 70 kms today and the fuel guage has dropped to the last 2 bars of 8 in total,
    that show on the readout.

so that means i have used 3/4 of the tank for 165kms?????

OK i add the following notes to this:

    1. the guage read full when i picked it up but i dont know that it was 100% full.

    2. it is running in which can use more gas.

    3. i dont know how much further 2 bars will get me??? (but im gonna find out)

    4. the rate at which the fuel disappeared today was alarming!

i think i will monitor this fuel thing quite carefully now.

as for the night ride tonite, that went with out a hitch. both the bike and i enjoyed the cooler temps(ambient 20c).
the instruments lit up well, with the central tach turning to a white-ish background colour.

the high mount indicators are really alot more noticeable which at night is alot safer. the headlight gave a good spread in the urban areas that i rode.

i also rode in my first rain shower this afternoon, but wasnt able to push too hard with the tyres still scrubbing in.

i have noted that my textile jacket is starting to scuff the area on the back of the tank above the mini tank pad. i will have to put some protection on there.i was thinking some black gloss vinyl would dothe trick.
