Have had 3 other vfr 800s and never encountered this problem, when bike is cold(out side temps plus 5cel/40f) clutch slipp,s a couple of times then works fine for rest of day ,as long as bike is warm, the slipping happens in first gear slow speed, start to let clutch out graps than slipps than grabs again than works great, just bought the bike 20,000kms,kind of unnerving, have changed out the oil rode a couple hundred clicks no change.?? thanks for any input

I dunno, but older clutch baskets develop notches in the slots that can impede plate movements.......?

I'm thinkin' friction plates. You could also inspect the basket at that time. Wonder what kind of oil the previous owner used? Reputedly (according to Honda that is), certain types of oil cause problems with the fiber material on the plates.

cool beans. glad to see the simple solution did the trick. hopefully your experience will avert someone changing their clutch unnecessarily.
