    I have been wondering this lately. I have heard a few people call the VFR a cult bike. I assumed that it was pretty much like this for all other bikes and just that I ride the VFR so I didn't know. For instance, I figured there was a website devoted to pretty much every bike out there where everyone was as adamantly a fan of their bike as we are. Is that the case or are we like 'The Ducatisti'?

    it's definitely a cult bike.. the 13 years of "best streetbike" in the 80s-90s cemented it's status as one of the best bikes ever made. very rarely does someone who rides/owns one ever settle for less assuming you only have one bike. Every stable of bikes should have one

    Webster defines a cult in several different ways:

    1 : formal religious veneration : worship
    2 : a system of religious beliefs and ritual; also : its body of adherents
    3 : a religion regarded as unorthodox or spurious; also : its body of adherents
    4 : a system for the cure of disease based on dogma set forth by its promulgator <health cults>
    5 a : great devotion to a person, idea, object, movement, or work (as a film or book); especially : such devotion regarded as a literary or intellectual fad b : the object of such devotion c : a usually small group of people characterized by such devotion

    #5 seems to hit the nail on the head.

    If the Mormons, Scientologists , Rush Limbaugh devotees, Amway distributers, Masons, Lesbians, or members of the Trilateral comission ride them, then yes.

    However, actually NO, cuz a cult bike never got rave reviews, never sold well while it was available, isn't conventional in some ways, is flawed in some ways and has limited appeal........like one real cult bike, the NT 650 Honda Hawk, 1988-1990 !

    Plus, any 2-stroke over 200 cc is also a cult bike.

    The VFR is a cult bike. Look at how we try to recruit others. Go to any other motorcycle forum... "What is the best sport-touring bike?...VFR!, What is the best sport bike?...VFR! What is the best dirt bike, VFR!"

    You get used to the goat blood.

    Yes, it is a cult bike. There are actually two well posted forums in english alone. The pricing is relatively stable above the $1-2k floor most used bikes hit after ten years. There is still aftermarket support for 5th generation bikes! Some others I'd consider cult bikes would be (add yours and potentially hijack Reg's thread):

    Honda:
    * NT650's - Hawk GT / BROS (squirrelman's pick)
    * CB-1 bzzzzzz
    * SupeScooter- er, Pacific Coast

    Yamaha:
    RZ-350
    FZR-400

    Kawasaki:
    KZ-1000

    Suzuki:
    GS1150
    GSXR-750

    any MotoGuzzi... you have to have religion to ride these. ;-)

    Yes it is. If it wasn't for the VFR / Interceptor, then I wouldn't own a street bike at all.

    Hmm, I guess it's true. I just figured it was the same for most bikes that have been in production for a while...

    I agree, never thought I would ever be involved with a cult but its not as bad as I thought it would be.
    I actually enjoy being a member of this cult...
    Hmmmmm, why does this wine taste funny?
