Getting a new rear tire. Stock valve stem is still on there and the tire is going anyway. I am a fan of Pirelli Diablo's as I have had some great distance out of them in the past, not to mention great grip on track days and the highway. Currently I have a rear Dunlop Sportmaxx 180/55R17 [73W] on there. What size tire would be the best for 10,000 miles of riding a season, including a couple track days through the year at NJMP, highway driving, some local driving, etc.

    Thanks!

whatever your stock size is. I run 170 diablos on the track (stock size) and they are fine. It's a street myth that wider tires=better handling/traction. Wider tires = slower turnin which on the VFR isnt the greatest idea. I may try 180s but thats about it. Would stick to stock sizes

Hmm. The 180 I have on there now hasn't been bad for the 2k miles I've put on it. I may stick that route. Not sure what stock was on my '98, though.

180 is the stock size for your 5th gen PA.

10,000 miles plus a couple track days? Don't think that will happen.

Asking for an awful lot brother.

    Thanks man.

I had about 8500 miles on the Pirelli Diablo Rosso rear tire on my Hawk GT with a couple track days on it. It still has plenty of tread left :) I know, with twice the hp now, I won't be doing that, but as close to possible is nice :)

    Alright pafirefighter'
I just replaced both my sportmax with a set of pirelli angels and I have to say there savage for the grip . The dunlops were a bit skippy in the wet and in this country its wet alot of the time. the piirelli 's are only new so I dont know how widespread availibility is .
Hope this is some sort of suggestion for ye kid.
    Regards
    Col
