I have a 1984 VF1000F that I bought new in 1985 & I am trying to get it going again after it has been sitting for the last 5 years or so. A couple weeks ago I got the engine running OK, but didn't work on it again until yesterday. I changed the coolant yesterday & after it warmed up for a few minutes it started smoking real bad out of the exhaust pipes. I shut it off & started it again after 10 minutes. For the first 15 seconds or so, it didn't smoke at all, but then started smoking real bad again. Any ideas what could be causing this? It doesn't really smell like buring oil. Could I have a coolant leak into the combustion chamber?
Off with your heads!! Did you store it with coolant in her? do you live in a climate that dips below freezing? Craced block? My guess is the coolant is getting past the head gasket(s)sic. pull the plugs check for a wet one, I hope it is the front one or the engine has to come out I own the same bike and I'm' in the mid's of a full engine rebuild so if you need help gust email me in this forum monitor it good luck Cheers Mike R.. I have a spare set of hard to get head gaskets if you need them..:smokin:
Yes, it was stored with the coolant in it. It has been in a garage here in Oregon, so I don't think the block would be cracked. I'll check to see if any of the plugs are wet. Thanks.
