Well Progressive got back to me on my totaled VFR. I paid $6999 plus $1500 to have the bags and Heli bars installed on her., so $8499. Progressive is giving me $8580 for the Bike. They still need to come tally up my gear money. My leather jacket, Shark RSR2 helmet, first gear mesh pants and FIVE gloves, all destroyed. I figure I will get $700-$1000 for all of that. Still won't pay my $4400 max out of pocket on my medical insurance though. I will more than likely make that easy. Took a punch of plates and 7 screws to put my collar bone back together. Long road to recover to go.

By the way I have a couple of motorcycle items I need to sell if anybody is interested. I have a set of Frogg Toggs, the nice ones with the reflective piping for bikers, XL Jacket and Large Pants, never worn, just tags taken off and rolled up in the duffle that came with them. I am 6'0 210, so they should be good for anybody in that area. I also have a Nelson- Rigg UV2000 half cover, and the duffle in came in. Used one day. message me if you are interested......

Sounds like you insurance is going to do right by you. At least that is something. Sorry to hear you are selling the gear, though. I guess that means you are done with bikes for a bit.

Reg71, yes I am giving it up. If I was pushing the envelope and crashed, then I probably could rationalize that I had it coming and I need to be less careless. The crash I had was so innocent. I was not doing anything wrong or reckless when it happened. I still have injuries that will probably effect me the rest of my life. There is no room for error on a motorcycle. I fooled myself into believing that wearing all that expensive protective gear would keep me safe. Well it probably did keep me alive, but it did not keep me from getting hurt. I still like motorcycles, but I will live that through you guys. I have two young kids at home that need me more than I need to be riding.

I hear ya. I always told myself that if I ever got into an accident that serious that I too would hang up my helmet.

    Understandable, especially with the kids.

You are lucky. Normally insurance would not come anywhere near that price. Unless you have "gap" insurance, they just give you the current value of the bike....which would probably be in the 5-6k range if I guessed. Good luck in the future.

Sounds like you have some pretty serious injuries, but at least you still have 2 feet about ground. Heal well, and be thankful that you can enjoy that time with the kids!

Keep your head up. Your injuries will heal and life will slowly return to normal. If the accident was not your fault the other driver is responsible for your medical bills. Good luck and I hope you heal quickly.

Actually when I looked up the "BlueBook" retail value of the bike it sayd $6700, that is as is without any add ons. They were pretty close. But you are right, I was lucky. By default you expect to get screwed by the insurance company, so this was a pleasant surprise.

That is just it. I was the only one involved. It was all on me. Just a silly mistake. Wasn't being reckless or doing anything stupid. Just made a mistake and ended up laying her down.
