Thanks for the offer but I do all my own carb work. Carbs are just so complicated and time consuming that I don't offer this service to others. I've had plenty of people asking me to rebuild their carbs but frankly I just don't like doing it!

    OH really ??

According to people who actually know, he's not doing carb work now but is on a long break.

JD, your efforts to slam me are getting old.

yup. only had to adjust the idle when i put them on. once i got the idle right bike ran great. everything sounded smooth.

i've since broken other crap, so the bike isn't running now, but squirrel is even helping me fix my other issues.

This is important for a couple reasons. When you do mail order work...there's gonna be stuff come up. It's impossible to completely bench test carbs until you get them on the bike and run it. Sometimes there's close calls. Is that hole in the pilot jet completely open? If you're gonna send your carbs out...you want somebody that's gonna get back to you when you have a problem.

The other thing is...as a repair person, you're relying on the other person's ability to reinstall the carbs that you've cleaned. In addition other things can come up that aren't related to the actual job that was done. For example, you can install perfectly clean carbs and if there's crap in the fuel line that finds its way in when the bike is started it's probably gonna contaminate those clean carbs and cause a leak or cloggage. Or there can be other problems...fouled plugs, old gas...whatever.

Sounds like Squirrelman has been very helpful beyond just carb cleaning in this case.

Thanks for the offer but if i call him i`d feel like a starlker :) It`s a shame that i see him respond on other site to peoples questions , even after i had sent him an email (and PMed him), so a simple no or i`m really busy would go aloooong way. I have been rebuilding inline 4 & alot of Goldwing carbs , but never tackled the v-4 carbs & hear ghost stories on getting them back right (so thats why i`m asking & thanks Squirrelman for your kind offer) i`m going to see how my funds are after i get these other parts for this bike. I know Nixon has some great books (a video would be better though)

Thats good to know !! and as for the other side of the fuel system , i`m changing out the fuel lines , filter , & getting both tanks cleaned (yes it has a second tank under the seat) before i reinstall anything. This way i`m pretty much starting with a clean slate. :)

I have a copy of Mike Nixon's manual on rebuilding V4 carburetors. It is very clearly written with plenty of reference photos and helpful tips - including the factory tech recommended way of reinstalling the carburetors once complete.

It sounds like you have a decent level of experience. I think with MN's manual you will be in fine shape, if you choose to take on the rebuild yourself.

Sounds like you got it under control, Confish. I wasn't implying your fuel lines needed to be replaced...my point is, stuff happens, things come up sometimes you didn't expect. Yup, that second, or auxiliary tank is usually the one that can get kinda nasty I've noticed. You know...if you've done Wing carbs the ones on your bike are a 'dead ringer' for GL1200 carbs. Just a slightly different arrangement and some different carb pieces from front to back as opposed to all being the same like on a 'Wing'.

If you have ever seen a tank out of an early goldwing just take one 3rd of it & stuff it next to the battery & regulator . (kind of like a heart shape canteen)

And Dizzy no problem !! i always get new fuel line on any old bike i get (cheap insurance) & yes they sure do look like the 1200wing carbs (just a little crossed up instaed of flat)
