    Hi Guys,
I have been here as a member for a little while but I'm the kind of member who only comes by when I need help with something ...

and I hope you can help again.

I got my 2008 vfr800 last year - I was really enjoying it so thought I would get a power commander. I installed it and enjoyed it more.

I then found a Micron exhaust on eBay for cheap... great! It arrived this morning. I made the mistake of assuming that PC made a map for the European model vfr800 with micron pipes. (I’m in Australia = euro model)
What options do you think I have?

Take off the power commander and enjoy the exhaust for a while?

    Cheers
    Jim

You can use maps that would have a similar can design to the Microns. Scorpion comes to mind. I should mention that when I installed a pipe and PC on my bike, there was no map for Two Bros either, so used a Remus map, and then the more generic coyze. Neither of them worked at all, making the bike run worse then it ever did stock. So my suggestion would be to get the bike on a dyno and get a custom tune. You already own the most expensive components, so if you can muster up another $250 or so it would be well worth the expense. A dyno tune will tie all of those things togather and completely undo all of the less then favorable mapping issues that are inheritant to the 6 gen VFR. Especially the big drop in HP and torque just before VTEC. If you go this route you're also going to need two o2 eliminators, if you didn't already have them installed with the PC.

Custom map is the way to go. Try to find a tuner who has experience with the 6th G.

Custom map is the way to go. I've got dyno time paid for but haven't had time to go in for it yet. I've been running the stock PCIII map and Cozey's for now and things seem better than stock. The stuff havcar has mentioned is essential. I would also highly recommend removing the evap canister and eliminating the PAIR valve system.

The pair block is a no brainer....I would do that first, as the tuner is going to have to plug it to complete the tuning anyway. Yes, the pair system is blocked off during the tuning process, or at least it is supposed to be.......

    Thanks guys,
I installed the Microns yesterday without too much trouble. They don't fit as well as I would have liked but they aren’t bad. My biggest fear was that it would run so badly I wouldn't be able to ride around and have to take them off again just to get to work. I went for a ride last night and it seems alright at 80km and less. I will go out again today for a real ride and see what its like. I will probably end up getting a custom map eventually but might wait until my next service.

I bought a 6th gen last week with a Two bros system and a PCIII with the O2 eliminators and it didn't run well at all. When I got it home I removed the PCIII and it runs like a champ. I plan to get a proper tune done when I get a filter for it and complete the Pair block off process.

I'm surprised that we can't get a decent map from power commander after all these years and the number of VFRs out there.

    Hi guys,
well I got a dyno tune and custom map (A$300) it was all good but had to return today to get the 2000rpm range sorted out, the guy had put lots of fuel on at that stage and it was really hard to take off smoothly. He smoothed it up and it now handles pretty well. The exhaust still sometimes sounds a little rough when I come off the power - close to, but not quite a 'pop'.

if anyone is interested I can scan and post the dyno curves.

    The essentials
    Before stats
Max power 95.37 max torque 51.85

    After stats
Max power 102.02 max torque 56.43

The dyno graph looks pretty good, how does the bike ride? Is it smooth when cruising at highway and street speeds?

I would be interested in seeing the fuel map file that you are running to compare it to mine. Can you send me the file?

I'm desperately trying to get my bike to run smoother at small throttle openings like you would see cruising down main street. It is surging a bit right now, I thought I had it licked but I guess not.

    Hi Jethro,
You are welcome to my map when I can get my laptop and bike together. :)

It’s not bad at lower speeds - not as smooth as I would like but I think I will just have to live with it. Its good at highway speeds but lower down (60km) it is pretty noisy and sometimes sounds like it wants to backfire.

I think the dyno tune guy wanted to get as much power and torque out of it as he could but I would have been happier with a smoother ride as possible. Which does pose the question? Why did I get a new exhaust?

Any chance you've gotten the map off the pc3 yet?

I would guess that you might get a quicker response if you pm'd the guy and offered up a little scratch for it........It would be a nice gesture anyway.
