So as many know I have a 1986 VFR700. I saved it from rotting away in a garage in Bakersfield a few years ago. I got it running , registered , and have been riding it for a while now not really sure what to do with it, ie, "custom" paint, or return her to the former glory of RWB. Well I have made up my mind. A return to her former glory of a RWB scheme is in the works and because of my REALLY limited budget (both of us are students) it will be accomplished in stages... first stage is complete. deciding what to do with it. I have procrastinated long enough on this project . Just haven't had the "bug " to do anything with her.
second stage had started. repainting, since I don't have the dough to buy the sticker set I will attempt to do the stripes in paint as well as the VFR logo and Honda wings on the tank. here is the first piece to be completed. the fender. Others will follow such as the fairings and tail section as well as the calibers and brake discs, and forks...will update as I complete over the next several weeks / months . the resolution on this picture may be crappy because I took it with my cell phone. I will get better ones witht he "big camera" when I finish..

I had a decal shop make up a set of decals from a screen print off a internet sight; I just confirmed the measurement I wanted each decal to be & added some custom chrome diamond plate touches. Cost me $25 & they look good; but I went with the stock solid dark blue for color(actually 04' GM Metallic Blue) & decal lay out.

here is the "new fairings" that I recieved from a fellow VFRWorld member....Thanks JTC this is the right side(of course) and it needs a little bit of plastic welding done to it....there are small cracks by the vents and the rear fairing screw hole is there but needs to be welded a slight sanding down of the exterior and it should be good to go...I notivced a BIG weight difference between my old ones and these..... the "new ones" are WAY lighter.. JTC said that they were stock so I guess honda changed the way they made them between the years

    Looking good.

If you're going RWB, take a look at these guys. I haven't used them but they look spot on, not like some of the Fleabay stuff. Some might say they're pricey, that's relative I guess. To me, after spending all that time filling, sanding, prepping, and painting, I would want the best looking decals I could get.

    Keep it up!

cool...thanks Hoppie.. the plan is to do the RWB scheme but I may just end up painting it all on.... and work on the decals for new (brand new set of fairings) fairings...... I have to decide if I want to order from VFRchuck or get them elsewhere...

old front fairing.. it came off all busted up like this...more damage that I knew about after the "incident" at longs

front view...after Longs it was looking to the left a bit which makes sense cause that the side that got smooshed up on the ground. matter of fact all the plastics on this thing are all originally from JTC's bike(except the windshield) all were easily fixed by a little plastic welding.
Now that all the welding is done , stickers removed, and a light sanding done on the front and side fairings . plastic body filler was going to be applied ...however, my gallon supply had sonmething mixed into so it was not the greatest looking stuff to use.. so tomorrow or the next day when the small child is back in school(home sick today) a small can will be procured, the flat spots on the welded spots filled in and the deep tiger scrapes filled in it will be time for paint ... 4 coats of white. and we will see where we are from there....
