    Guys

I've been looking for a set of crash bungs, frame sliders or whatever you want to call them for a while now. Still haven't found any.

There are a couple of sets of bung-type things that show up on eBay from time to time, but be wary of them - they attach to the side fairings outside the lower fairing spacers (the spindley metal struts). If you go down with these on, don't expect any protection, 'cos the spacers will just collapse.

Ideally, we need bungs that attach through the fairings onto the engine mounts. Trouble is, no-one makes 'em - or at least, no-one I've found. I get the feeling that the only way we're going to find anything that works is for someone to buy a set for a Honda of the same age or for a later (Pro-arm) VFR and see if they can be adapted to fit.

    Tx.

I've got a par of that crap sen on ebay.
I've already pt one on my Fizzer. The effect is nice, even if I agree, they are not so useful in case of crash.
But...in case the bike is left....resting on a side (!!) they can do their lttle job. Better than nothing, considering price, no drills required and shape. I also think they can fit any model as the seller said, he can't guarantee all models have same bolt's size. I'll check soon and I'll drop a couple words about.

    Ok,
I've "slightly" checked out and it seems they fit for side fairings.

Naturally, they're quite weak, but as mini-side bumpers, guess they can fit.

as far as i know, nobody makes frame sliders for the 86/87 vfr. in fact, i've yet to see a picture of one with decent sliders. . . correct me if i'm wrong . . .

I'm also looking (after a parking space mishap a couple days ago). I'm thinking I'll end up putting a hole in the fairing, and adapting a "universal" slider, or fab a bracket to span two points on the frame, to locate the slider in one of the fairing vents (which seems pretty tricky, and I'm not sure if it will cause any problems with vibrations by coupling the frame parts together like that).

well, the RC30 and the previous RVF used to locate mushrooms inside those air vents on side of fairing.
at least, I guess I remember that. so it would work.

From looking at RC30 pictures, the vents are in different locations, and might have a handy exposed frame bolt to use. When I was looking on my bike, it was looking like drilling was the only option for the frame bolts.

    Hello Everyone,
If I had a diagram of the mounting and what they looked like I could tool up and make a few so anyone have any detailed pictures ?

I just had a little spill on my newly repaired VFR700F2 and frame sliders of some kind WILL be installed. The best location to put them is my main concern.

If we look here, there are 2 big motor mount bolts that can be utilized. The upper bolt is too high and would require a slider about 5" long. The lower location is better, but I think it's a bit too low. The bike might flip over onto the cowl. A replacable strip of aluminum or stainless steel can be attached to the mufflers as shown.

My latest design would be to weld up a mounting bracket that would attach to both bolts and let me mount a universal frame slider in the exact spot I want.

Well I actually can help here a bit. I was told that a set of RC51 frame sliders will work on our 86-89 models, and they should be mounted to the front engine mounts. I have already purchased a set, and just havent gotten them mounted yet due to a lack of hole saw blades.

I've decided to go a step beyond frame sliders so as to protect my handlebars, tank, levers and mirrors.

After studing a lot of bike falls, it seems you really need 3 points for the bike to fall onto it's side. (Check out the Moto Gymkhana vids on Youtube)

I borrowed this pic and then made a few changes.

Note that these 2 points on the side are toward the front of the bike and the 3rd point would probably be a fixed slider in place of the passenger pegs.

By tucking the lower peg in just enough to protect the case, you can have the upper peg not extend beyond the handlebars/mirrors. That way it keeps the bike narrow for slipping in between things, cough(vehicles)cough. I mean, if the handlebars won't fit through, your not getting through. :)
