Mine was a Honda CB175 in 1977, Dreadful, if it was a horse I'd have shot it.

The CB 175? I lusted after that bike when I was a youngster. Berry cool when a guy like me was stuck with a 90cc Honda . . . . .

I am going to amend my previous posting. While my SL125 Honda was technically my first bike there was another more important bike before that. The 500cc Triumph Speed Twin (shown below) was a Christmas gift from my parents. I must have been six or seven years old. I loved that bike. I have kept it safe and it still sits on my desk more that 40 years later. There is something about this little bike and its full race rider that just feeds my imagination. Even with it sitting on the table you can stare at it, at eye level, and see the rider flying along in his racer crouch. Much to my parents dismay that little bike made me want anything with two wheels and engine and a seat.

86 GSXR750: I was completely dangerous on that one at first. 89 GSXR1100 - sorta mellowed out with that one (just sold it, had since new). I did hit 170 on the speedo with that one. 03 TL1000R: Love the torque from the twin and just added the 07 RWB - which I can't ride for another 3 months due to my back surgery. It's still at the dealership. I bought my TL when I had knee surgery 4 years ago in December. I couldn't ride that one until June that year. I guess I'll but another bike when I have my next surgery!

First bike was this '90 GS500. Lots of work; carbs, seat, exhaust, fairing, tires, etc. Sold it to a squid and it ended up being resold a few times, finally painted flat black and in the SanFran impound yard where I got a notice to retrieve it or let it go to the crusher, which is where it ended up.

First bike was a 2001 Honda Shadow Spirit 750. I rode that thing everywhere, rain or shine. For me it was a great first bike, small enough to learn on, enough power to keep me content for a few years.

I did go to look at it, was in the impound yard with 100 other bikes being auctioned off. Rattle can painted flat black while fully assembled, lots of overspray, low sided on both sides, just beat to heck in about 12 months after this pic. No one ever re-registered it which was why I got the impound notice. Was a nice little bike, fun to ride if a little much vibration. I've seen them make nice track bikes.

I always thought those were fantastic looking bikes. That is really a shame. I have seen people totally destroy a bike in just a few months. It just amazes me how fast a bike can deteriorate in some people’s hands.

    My first bike.
    Honda CB92
I won my first trophy at the drag races and got a 3 foot tall trophy.
It was a Don Gartlits drag racing event and he was the first to go over 200mph in the quarter mile. My only drag race experience.

I beat all the 125's in my class.

When I was 16, I had no money and I would walk for miles to go to the motorcycle shop and stare at a HONDA CB160 in the front window, (same basically as the 175) for hours and dream of owning one.

The CB175 did not look as good.
