    Hello Fellow Vfers,

I am an ex-owner of an RC36-1, and I stumbled across a 2nd hand RC36-2 registered in 1998 which has caught my eye.

I have a couple of questions:

    1) Were there any "special editions" as such, of this beast between '97 and '98, and if there were, what were the characteristics of these special editions? (The bike's actual VIN states manufacture in '97 in Hamamatsu, Japan, however th bike was registered in Spain in '98... )

    2) Could it have been imported from some other country, or just wasn't sold until '98!?) ---> JH2RC36A2VM701596

Current owner claims it is a VFR750 NRC (limited edition VFR750, very few in Spain) with more power than the standard RC36-2. Owner claims it hits around 120+bhp. He also says that it does not state it in the bike's papers, but it should yield over 120bhp if run on a test bed. This either sounds like the guy's bluffing, or he has been a very lucky RC36 owner for the past 40,000kms!

Went to check it out in person today and the engine cold start-up was spotless. No need for choke lever, idle when cold around 800rpm. Progressively rising until 1000rpm as it warmed up. No alarming valve sounds, amazing exhaust sound. (total mileage: 44000km). General Good State.

You can check the ad here:
    Honda Vfr 750 F en Las Palmas - Segundamano.es - 22091842

Anyway, the bike is in Spain, and was bought first hand in Spain (apparently). I would be grateful if you do know anything about special eds. RC36-2's let me know!!!

Best regards and V for ever!

The seller must be very confused about the different models of VFR750.
Sure, the 94-97 looks abit like an NR750, but that's about it!

The only 'special' vfr I can think of was the anniversay vfr800 (with red/silver bodywork), and there was nothing different apart from cosmetics.

So without a dyno print out from a trusty worthy dyno, ignore all claimed power figures. Full stop.

Also worth investigating is the decal on the tank, it looks like it's at the wrong angle. Possible respray??

You guys are amazing with details! Than you so much for the feedback so far!

Mr. Orange: It definitely ISN'T an NR750! Don't think any of those made it to Spain, let alone the Canary Islands!

I'm having a real hard time finding any info on any "special" RC36-2 VFR's :(.

Can any of you see anything out of the ordinary on the VIN?

I'll be ringing up to enquire about the logo possible re-spray, the bike did actually look like it had been repainted, the pipe leading to the exhaust can was painted black recently, the exit grills on the side fairings looked like they had been finished a little carelessly. In all, i think 4490€ for the bike is excessive, specially if the "NRC" claim is BS.

Also, heard that for the '97 version, there weren't any red painted models?

I will try to get it on a test bed see what happens!

there is no NCR designation only NR and that is not a NR.
the RC-36 -2 ( -2 ) means it was a jap version and poss europe as well. the US had the -1 designation.
that is what I come up with on it. again just a plain jane VFR 750. will not have the HP the owner claims.

You mean 2 spark plugs per cylinder?

I will remove the fairings myself to get a closeup of the engine.

Also being sold a year (or just the following calendar year) after manufacture is not out of the ordinary in any way shape or form. On both cars and bikes the year of manufacture is often the year previous to the official model year.

    I call BS too

The fact that a 97 started up without the choke tells me it had already been started that day.....Me thinks all carburated bikes are cold blooded in the morning.
