Thought I'd see if any of you "I used to have a VF500, but I sold it" guys still have the OEM SM around. There are a few on ebay, but I thought I'd see if a LM had one they wanted to sell first. (I have one, but it's in rough shape...hard to read, missing pages, etc.) Looking for one in better shape than mine...

I have an 85 owners manual.

The repair manual I gave away with the bike.

If you can find one in the original green binder, this is the way to go, the quality of the printing is much better.

There is one on eBay right now but the asking price is way high. With a little patience you should be able to purchase one for about $20 + shipping. In the interim if you need a page or two copied I am happy to scan and post.

Speaking of Ebay and "way high", IC, you MAY be interested in seeing this...

Honda : Interceptor: eBay Motors (item 220681493801 end time Oct-17-10 17:46:06 PDT)

I know. After just buying a 84 model for less than 25% of what he's asking, I thought the same thing: Best o' luck with that. He has 5 miles less than mine, but I think that price is wishful thinking to the extreme. Anyhow, since it's the same model/color as yours I thought you'd like to see it/watch it. Who knows....you might be sitting on a goldmine!

Oh...I saw the SM for $99. That must be the one you were referring to. Also saw one for $35. Neither have this green binder you were talking about. The ebay ones have a different front cover than mine too. Mine is solid blue. Ebay ones have a helmeted rider graphic. Probably same info though, right?

Local Schmocal. That's what road trips/vacation days are for. But I agree with you: that price has gotta come waaaaay down. Someone needs a reality check. I know it's lo-miles and in great shape, but twice what it went for when new??

Well schiz-nit. Never seen one of those in the binder before. How is it different from just the regular paper manual/book without the binder? Looks like yours is divided into sections, whereas mine (in one book) is all-in-one?

The cover on yours looks like mine (blue...says OFFICIAL on it, foto of bike), but yours says only 84. Wonder what changed between yours and the ones with the helmet graphic that says 84/85/86?

I have both an OEM all in one (bound pages) and this '84 in the green binder (individual pages). The printing quality of the one in the binder (clarity of the images) is much better.

The binder copies do come up on eBay now and again in the $20 range.

The OEM manuals are far superior to any aftermarket options but if going OEM - and if you have the time - order up on a binder copy as you won't be disappointed.

In the interim if you need some pages scanned I'm more than happy to help.

Got a page on the pulse generator on the 84 and how to check it? I've got a multimeter, and I can figure out which male/female block plug connector under the L cover it is probably (guessing it's the only black connector @ the top of the metal connector holder...also runs the neutral dash light?) but have no idea what the values should be or how to check it, since that whole section is missing from my 84/85 manual. I'm gonna try and measure it cold, and after running it/hot to see if it cuts out when the bike gets hot. Or maybe when it won't restart and note any changes.

No hurry. I won't be able to get to it for a few days anyhow probably due to lobster season this weekend...

Oh...if you have tips if you've done it yourself, always helpful as well...

    And thanks, of course.
