I got 60 days Crusty, And I hear ya. Infantry AIT was shooting things, blowing stuff up & sticking them with bayonets, But I guess M.I. is a differnt thing, as well as the Pepsi Generation Army in general. They need to guve us old guys unlimmited ammo and piont us in the right direction and we would at least bring back a few peices of them in exchange for beer.

Keep tracking, Kiddo. No worries. Get AIT knocked out, Get the wings, and THEN the fun starts. SOCOM was my best years. You still got a fast track for PSYOP if you want it.

Spent some time stripping the tank down & sanding on the front fender a bit today. Shop time was spent mostly on Kris's GMC, again.

Judging from all the rust in the carbs, the tank is just nasty. Enter stripping and relining the tank.
Had to rig a way to plug off the hole for the petcock.
First wash it out with soap and water.
Then "FUN WITH ACID!" allways a good time. The rust and asorted crap did break loose and start to float way. Left this in overnite.
The acid is dumpped out, tank rinsed clean and prepped with acitone. Entire inside became a dull gray.
Then I began to reline the tank.
The liner is spread around to the entire tank flipping it on all sides so it coats all the bare metal. Extra liner was drained out the petcock hole.

    [IMG]s
    [IMG]
The entire inside of the tank is now coated in the white liner.
The VALVE COVER: Back on, all bolts tighned to 84.6 Inch pounds, and they seem to have held.
Thats about where I made it to this weekend, body work, finish fab on the pipe, side covers, tail lite, front fly screen & what ever else I find need done.

What did you do about the stripped threads for the valve cover? Just curious. Was it easy to wipe the coating off where it came out of the petcock area? Never used a coating in a tank yet. I may have to on an older Goldwing I'm working on for a friend.

This is a very thorough rebuild not just repainting but fixing up the mechanical internals. Your daughter better not give you any crap! I can't wait to see the final product!

I was given this LocTite thread restoring kit by a buddy. I cured up nice & I was able torque it to specs. The liner that ran out the petcock hole can just be cut off with a razor.

Sweet build. Reminds me of the 75 kz400 I built as my first bike last year, old bikes are so fun to play with. I was looking at the most recent side shot of the bike and realized how much i liked the tail section you build. Then it hit me as to how awesome it would look if it had a cafe style cowl over the back part of the seat kinda like our viffers do. Just a thought. Good luck with the build, your daughter is gonna love that thing. Thought of a paint scheme/color yet?
