Well as some of you know from my previous threads I got a speeding ticket on my way back home from North Carolina last month. I was doing a little over 80mph in a 60 mph zone and was pulled over by the NC State Patrol and issued a citation. Since I was from out of town the trooper cut me a break and wrote the ticket for 75 in a 60 so that I could just mail in my fine and would not have to appear in court as mandated by 20+ over violations in NC. Normally I would have been content with this reduction and just paid the fine but since I am planning on purchasing a new car soon I wanted to see if I could get the speed reduced a little more so it would have less impact on my insurance. After doing some research on the internet I was able determine that my chances of having the charges reduced were very good especially since it was my first violation in North Carolina. Instead of going back to NC to try to work out a deal with the assistant D.A. myself I signed a waiver of appearance and paid $175 for a local NC lawyer who went to court for me on Friday. I got the disposition in the mail today and was thrilled to find that I my speeding charge had been reduced to the charge of "Improper Equipment" which is a non-moving violation and results in 0 points on my record. The moral of the story is to do a little research before paying your fine or going to court. There are plenty of lawyers who offer free consults and are experienced at handling these types of cases. I know most people wouldn't want to spend extra money for a lawyer on a simple speeding ticket but I would gladly pay $175 to a lawyer instead of paying increased insurance premiums for the next 3 years.

I agree, Traffic Citation Clinic in Sacramento has gotten me oot of every ticket for 20+ years. Money in the bank. Couple of 100+ tickets to. Best thing that ever happened to me was finding them.

Great! I'm happy for you Rollin. I was wondering the other day how it went for you.
I have had a shift in my worldview, got pulled by a state trooper last week, and no ticket! He asked for my license, checked my plates, asked how long I had been riding, and mentioned that I came out of a curve a little hot. I answered the questions, and he let me skate-

I was involved in Ontario as a Paralegal, this was one of the applications my clients would ask for. Here in Canada, we have several companies that perform this. Points, is one Started by a Toronto ex police officer. It is a multimilllion company that has franchises across Canada. another is Ex Copper that does the same thing along with licensed Paralegals in Ontario and lawyers like you said.. The norm is to talk to the Crown-DA discus the clients past and agree with the appropriate punishment . It was a great job till I was head hunted to come to Calgary and work here. So yes please do fight the speeding and other traffic tickets ,the possible chance the officer is on holiday's or a no show is fairly high, budget cuts ,no overtime rules Etc: Cheers Mike R..

The bottom line here is that NC doesn't care whether or not my insurance rates go up as long as I pay their fine and court fees. The lawyer told me that they usually hold traffic court on the same day for everyone and that on that particular Friday there were over 500 cases on the docket. After talking to several people they told me this is the norm in NC and that is why they are so willing to negotiate a plea prior to the court date. In the end everyone is happy since they get their money and I walk away with a non-moving violation. I paid my fine and learned my lesson without having to take it up the A$$ from my insurance company for the next 3 years.

This will teach all those California miscreants to do as Pope Crusty says and slow down.

There is a least one large company in the Seattle area that has a "ticket" lawyer on retainer. This outfit hires young guys and girls to make software and pays them lots of money. They buy nice cars and bikes.

A year or so back I suggested that if one gets a ticket to use an attorney. Tickets follow you around like _____ _____ ____. (fill in the blanks) Ya pay the man and the man then becomes the insurance guy who then has both hands and both feet in your bank account.

The irony is that somebody here saying that they were a lawyer felt it unethical to ask said lawyer what his or her win rate on tickets happened to be.

    What a crock!

I've tried my best, but I just cannot seem to ride at or under the speed limit. It's unnatural.

I do speed...5-10 over I guess I am just not into "speeding" or maybe its a lesson that I got form the CHP years ago.... the patrolman could have nailed me at double the limit..but he chose to let me off with a 10 over ticket.... I guess his words really stuck with me.....
