I am thinking about buying a 1984 VF1000F with about 10,000 miles, so it's sat for some time. I've had V65 Sabres in the past, and really like the V4 engine. Are the usual repair parts still readily available, the local Honda dealer was sketchy. I know the carbs will need at least cleaning. I'm looking for a second bike to tinker on, but not a money pit or a real crusade of trying to locate parts. My current bike is a BMW, so I'm used to doing my own wrenching since their dealer network is really thin.

    Thanks.

I have the same bike, although it's tagged as an 85 on the VIN decal. It's a little heavy, but has gobs of torque. An excellent sport touring mount. So far I liike it. It hauls me and the Mrs around at a good clip, and has lots of passing power.Lots of info here on this site. Basic maintenance is all I've done so far. Kinda rude to work on, but doesn't need much special attention. Cams can be a sore spot, but yours seems to be low miles, so it should be ok. Use high quality motorcycle oil, change it frequently, and enjoy

Most new OEM motor parts for first gens are no longer available. However, there are a lots of less used parts available and if where you live is anything like where I live, then there are other bikes always available that you can pick up. Taking the best parts out of a few bikes makes for a great project. I know I enjoyed it except I didn't have a second bike like you have. That would make it a lot less pressured when the urge to ride is on.

Lot's of info on this site to read up. Keep us posted and welcome to the best VF/VFR forum on the planet!

I bought one about a month ago and love it! A top end oiling kit is an absolute must. Ebay has pretty much everything you will need as far as parts and stuff go. If the paint and plastics are in good shape and it was stored inside i'd say go for it
