    So

Just got back from Burlington Washington and ordered a brand new Shoei X Twelve helmet. The Kiyonari 2 TC5 to be exact, A pricey item for sure. I asked the shop if they would natch the price available to me on line and they did. So do your homework and present the dealers with a price and you may be pleasantly surprised.

I have to wait a month for it to come in though. But that's OK. These helmets list here in Canada for just under $1200.00 I believe. So even when I pay the duty, I think my savings are going to be a few hundred dollars. I got this one for $755.99 + applicable taxes. Once I have worn it for a while, I will post up and let everyone know what I think. My Sharke won't even be kept as a spare. After sale service from them is poor at best.

Too late! Damned! Already paid for. Just waiting for it to come in. Besides, I am Leary that my Sharke is going to last that long. The cover for the top vent is hanging by a thread and as you know, I ride through the winter here. Actually I thought $755.00 was a pretty good price considering the MSRP here in Canada. Before I spend anything more on this bike, I will PM you first. Thanks Long.

As for SLO.....well The wife and I have a Caribbean Cruise and a Scotland trip in store this year so my discretionary spending this year has sort of gone down the toilet. We will see.

although i am too frequently a cheap-azz bastard in other areas,

investment grade gear is an expenditure that i can always approve.

Agreed. But epense is not always a good barometer. I am sure my Sharke would have done the job had I crashed. And with the miles I have under this thing, (about 60,000 miles) I suppose it was time for a new one. My problem with it is the complete lack fo support from Sharke for replacement of parts. Iam ssure that Shoei will be more supportive, like most others, when it comes tome to replace such things as the inner padding. And the Sharke was an $850.00 CDN helmet. Can't wait until the Shoei comes in.

now we're gettin somewhere, as wisdom makes a grand entrance into to fray

my recent "investment" in a new helmet was greater in research than cash outlay

im sure that the shoei will be great, if its a good fit. ive had several in the past.

Yes we do. And no I cannot claim the rebate if we are from BC. Something to do with our new fucking Harmonized Sales Tax brought in by our Premier who resigned yesterday. Most other provinces you can claim the rebate but not if you reside in BC. Ahhhh. BC politics at its best. But that is a whole new thread.

That sounds like a whole nother sack of worms. I was speaking of paying Washington State Sales Tax and whatever the rate is in Skagit County. I live in Oregon. No sales tax. I lived in Seattle for years. Roughly 10% Sales Tax. If I buy something from Washington. I am not required to pay Washington State Sales Tax.

FIY this is a big deal, this putting the onus on businesses to collect taxes. The big boys are fighting it. One prime example is Amazon is suing the State of New York over the issue.

We have our share of shifty politicians here too. I bought an on-sale GPS for a friend who resides in Texas . First off, the dude on the phone didn't know about the sale. We got that figured out. I was going to pay using a debit card. When the guy quotes me the final price, It's more than ten bucks over the sale price.. Whoa there dude, WTF? He tells me Texas and Houston sales tax. I cancel. I go to my local Staples and buy the fucking thing, no tax and they ship it UPS for free. I find later that it's not a sales tax at all but a (get this) a " Use Tax" an invention of the Texas State Comptroller. The irony? The use tax is the same fucking amount as the sales tax would be.

These dealers, and I'm more than familiar with most in Seattle and North to the border will keep the bucks you pay and you will be none the wiser. My advice have them show you what the law is in black and white and maybe next time, ride a bit further South into Seattle and find an even better deal on Shoei. This is a shameless plug for Seattle Cycle Center .

Well yesterday I was wondering just where my helmet is at? After all it has been over a month since I ordered it right. Well checking this thread, I guess I am just a little anxious. When the hell is it getting here? Should I call? No...don't be a dork. They said they would call. Give thme a chance.

A few hours ago, my shop down in Burlington Washington called to say the lid is in. Now all I have to do is wait until this deep freeze lifts and off I go...Stay tuned.

The X-11 is nice too. I had one a few years back and it is very comparable to the RF-1100 I just picked up.

And what a refreshing experience with the parts department. I haven't done business with a dealership since 2005 or so. I used to be if you brought an internet price to them... they would look at you like you head 3 heads. These guys almost encouraged it.

Well, I picked up my new helmet Saturday, looked it over, and actually read the material. Tried it on and the fit is very snug, but that should be expected until it breaks in. I so far really like what I see. The venting looks to be quite good which is big for me in this colder wet weather. We will see how well it works when it comes to riding in the pouring rain. But I can see, that for the first little while though, I may not be able to wear a balaclava underneath. There are two neat little tabs at either side just below the ear area that in an emergency, EMTs can pull and remove the padding allowing easier access should you be unfortunate enough to have a collision.

The breath guard could be better. The one in my Sharke was quite good. The summer guard was removed and the winter one installed that directed the breath directly to the side vents. Too bad Shoie did not design something like that. The present Shoie breath guard has a fairly large area where the breath can escape up in to the helmet, and therefore may cause fogging. But this is speculation as I have not tried it yet. It is just too damned cold to go out for a ride and check it out.

Next week I should be able to ride. I say this as I hear the wind blowing at about 50 MPH and the temperature presently at -8C or lower and a wind chill factor at below -22C.

As a plug for the shop, they treated me quite good. This is the second purchase I made from them. Understand they are in the USA and I am in Canada. I bought a set of Cortech saddle and trunk bags just before I headed down to Slo1020. ANd now the helmet where they met the internet price. So if you are in the Sedro Wooley or Burlington area, they are Skadgit Power Sport. Go see them. I am sure you will be treated with absolute fairness and professionalism.

Still waiting for weather suitable for me to ride in. And I don't mean sunshine and 75 degree weather. Maybe later this week. I am looking forward to trying this thing out. I have sent an e-mail off to Shoei Customer Service to give them the opportunity to respond to anything I may post here. If I find a negative about this, certainly I will post this up, but I will let them know first and also post how they respond to my findings. Fair is fair.
