Looks like Honda has taken note of the popularity of Mid sized motorcycles at the moment and has released a teaser picture of a new road based Adventure Tourer styled VFR800X.

Wonder if it'll use the Gen 6s V4 or a new single cammed one based on the VFR1200 ?

Honda releases second design sketch of new 800cc V4

Honda has issued a second image of the new VFR800X - a V4 bike the firm is dubbing a 'crossover' bike that mixes adventure bike looks but with road bike manners and ability.

This bike will be released in finished form at the Milan motorcycle show on November 2. The firm has also officially confirmed it will be showing a second V4 concept which will be based on the VFR1200 V4 engine.

An interesting one for two reasons.

The most important one being proof Honda have a 800cc v4 on their mind where previously they appeared to have none and secondly they have released a sketch that hints of a road based Adventure Tourer which ties in nicely when you look at Kawasakis Versys and BMWs 800GS having Naked and Sports Touring varients based on the same platform.

Honda could also use an N or ST version against the FZ8n & FZ8S/Fazer which I had been eyeing off as a possibility next year.

The specs on Honda's website doesn't list VTEC. It only states a 782cc, 16 valve, DOHC V4.

Hondas Press Kit definitely mentions VTech which makes good sense seeing as how they use the current Gen 6 Engine with no new retooling required, my only surprise is it also retains the 6th Gens gearing.

    " Main features

    - Low-slung 4-2-1 exhaust system leaves room for a lower, flatter pillion seat as well as allowing for an attractive exhaust design, excellent cornering clearance and a distinctive V4 engine note

    - Natural, upright riding position of a Naked machine is combined with the roominess, comfort and rugged appearance of an adventure bike

    - Wide handlebar configuration contributes to quick, accurate response to steering input

    - Low passenger seat is designed for easy mounting and positions pillion at similar level to the rider, resulting in better wind protection and an enhanced ride feel
