Hey all, I've been lurking around since august, trying to find just the right bike for me. I've been all over the place, from the suzuki boulevard, all the way to the cbr 1000rr, and finally decided to go with this:

Its an 03 VFR, 16k miles, and in near pristine condition. Theres a couple of little spots here and there that need work, but I fell in love with the bike already. I picked it up in NJ and drove it home, about 2 hours and it was a blast. I was with my Dad, he drove it for the first half and I drove it the rest of the way, and we're both in aggrement; its one hell of a bike! Vtec engagement is nothing short of pure awesome and the riding position is a perfect compromise between super-sport and full blown touring.

The brakes, in my opinion, are amazing. Maybe its my lack of experience on a new-tech bike but having linked brakes is really cool.

The exhaust note is also damn near perfect. Its incredibly quiet, I couldnt believe I was able to carry on a conversation with the previous owner, while sitting on the bike idling. But then when vtec engages, man oh man, what a sound. I've got a honda s2000, so I'm used to the vtec sound, but holy hell does it sound good on a bike.

Now for the bad; The only thing wrong with the bike is the right side fairing has a small crack in it, and part of the windscreen mount is missing, also on the right side. Should be an easy couple of fixes.

All in all, I dont think I did too bad. 03 with 16k miles, zero gravity windscreen, givi hard tail bag/rack, bike storage cover, good rubber, all maint. done and documented, clean title, $2900. Any questions/comments/mod ideas, are more then welcome!

    Great find and buy! Enjoy!

Pick up some Plastex for the plastic repairs. I recently did a repair on a broken windscreen screw tab and it worked fantastically!

    Thanks for the warm welcome!

Big green: Thanks for the advice on the plastex, I'm gonna give it a shot because I have the same issue you're describing.

ridervfr: Excellent tips on the electric stuff. If i end up doing any winter riding, I'll be sure to pick some up. I ended up riding the bike home yesterday more out of necessity than anything else. No trailer, and truck was already loaded with stuff. It was ass-bitting cold, but those little vents up front for the radiator make great hand warmers.

My Christmas list is full of VFR goodies already. What have I gotten myself into?!

Congratulations on an excellent snipe! (1 min 11 seconds remaining).

I saw the bike on e-Bay (recognized the photo) and said to myself, "hell, at these prices I should think about picking another one up". :)

    Enjoy (I know you will)!

Welcome to the funny farm. I am the only one on this site who is sane. The rest are nutz.

Gerbings makes great products for cold weather motorcycle riding. I would strongly suggest that rather than a heated vest, you get the complete heated jacket liner. I also have the pant liner and boot insoles. Mind you, I am not totally impressed with the boot liner. They could be warmer. Also what is unfortunate about Gerbings is you need to order the on -off switch separately. I had a go around with a representative at a Motorcycle show about this and finally walked away from him. He asked my opinion and I gave it. But he continued to defend his company's position as I walked away...about 3/4 hour later. Having said this, if I were to do this all over again, I would still buy the Gerbings Jacket Liner, Pant liner and switch again. They are worth it in my books.

Thanks again for all the comments and the warm welcome!

Gregpaul: Yeah, that was me with the snipe. I was emailing the seller before the auction ended about trying to set up an early sale, but he wanted to go thru with ebay. So I ended up just waiting, and to my surprise, the highest bid was only 2850. I entered my bid, and waited for the longest 1 minute 11 seconds of my life.

I thought it was a pretty awesome deal myself, but had to be sure :).

Randy: Thats some excellent information! I'll definitely keep it in mind if I end up doing any more cold weather riding. I doubt I will, if for no other reason than PA does an AWFUL job with snow removal. I also dont want to expose her to the salt/cinders just yet.
